Established in 2001, Furey Construction (Brendan Furey Construction Ltd) in Tuam, Co. Galway has earned an enviable reputation for building beautiful bespoke one-off homes using the Amvic ICF and KORE insulated foundation systems.
Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) is an increasingly popular method of building construction using lightweight and hollow insulation forms that fit together and are then filled with concrete. Once set, the concrete becomes a high-strength structure and the formwork remains in place as thermal insulation.
A building constructed using the Amvic ICF system will achieve far higher thermal, sound and fire performance standards than traditional construction methods such as block or timber frame, and at a much lower cost for comparable performance than any other building system available today. A house built with Amvic ICF will easily meet the building regulation’s requirements for air-tightness, junction thermal bridging minimisation and U-Value needed for an A3-rated home as standard.
Produced in Naas, Co. Kildare, the Amvic ICF system can be used to construct any kind of building, including residential developments, self-build homes and extensions, basement and earth-sheltered development, commercial units and industrial buildings.
Furey Construction is also an approved installer of the KORE insulated foundation system which virtually eliminates thermal bridging by wrapping the entire foundation in a continuous layer of EPS. The system, which is Ireland’s first certified insulated foundation system, works much like a traditional raft foundation. The EPS element is specifically designed and cut to suit the building type for insulation. The foundation’s exceptional comprehensive strength makes the product suitable for both domestic and commercial applications.
“As a forward-thinking and progressive company, we decided to go down the ICF route in 2019 and haven’t looked back since,” says Furey Construction founder and owner Brendan Furey.
“With ICF construction, you can build better, more comfortable and energy efficient homes faster. An ICF-built home is the nearest thing to passive. It’s less labour intensive and is built by carpenters rather than block-layers.
“We tried a few different ICF systems before eventually settling on Amvic due to its superior quality and user-friendliness. The same goes for KORE insulated raft. The two systems go hand-in-hand.”
While Furey Construction specialises in first phase works, it can also complete the entire build and bring it to a turnkey finish.
“Despite having a small crew, we’re able to do the foundations, walls and roofs without the need for any subcontractors. It gives us greater control over things. If people want us to do the second phase, we can do that as well. But the first phase of the build is our niche,” Brendan explains.
Brendan was originally a roofer before offering a full building service. Like his six staff members, who include his brother Noel, he’s a carpenter by trade. The Furey team is supported by the same tried and trusted subcontractors from the plastering stage onwards, including M&S Floorscreed, plasterer Paul Boyle, plumber Jarlath Furey and electrician Aidan Morrissey.
Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Furey Construction. Health & Safety is at the core of the business, and never more so than since the Covid-19 pandemic. From concept to completion, Brendan and his highly-skilled team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs, and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved.
Furey Construction’s one-stop shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Co. Galway contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from scores of satisfied clients.
By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with design teams and using only the very best building products, this fully insured contractor is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients.
As a modest-sized concern, Furey Construction is happy to stay local and Brendan has no plans to let the business grow beyond the point where it could potentially lose its personal touch with clients. The builder recently handed over two new homes in Tuam and Clonboo near Annaghdown, and is currently working on projects in Clarinbridge, Furbo and Salthill.
“The houses we build are typically 3,000 sq. ft. in size. They’re getting bigger and bigger, and there continues to be a good demand for them,” Brendan notes.
As Furey Construction continues to go from strength to strength, Brendan would like to take this opportunity to thank his customers and suppliers for their support as well as his staff and subcontractors for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
