16 Dec , 2022

As Ireland’s leading mechanical services contractor, Alpha Mechanical Services – in conjunction with sister company Alpha Facilities Maintenance – provides a comprehensive range of services covering design, supply and installation of HVAC solutions to all sectors as well as reactive works and planned preventative maintenance. Building Ireland touched base with director Vincent Geraghty for an update.

Over the nine years since its inception, Alpha Mechanical Services has quickly established itself as Ireland’s leading mechanical service contractor, specialising in the installation of HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) systems to the commercial, industrial, retail and hospitality sectors in particular, combining industry-leading expertise and cutting-edge technology to deliver uncompromising solutions, invariably within budget and on schedule.

Meanwhile, Alpha Facilities Maintenance – which was established in 2019 – provides planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and dedicated 24/7/365 HVAC support teams for emergency refrigeration, HVAC or other large equipment repairs.

Between them, Alpha’s mechanical services and facilities maintenance teams specialise in offering custom solutions and comprehensive recommendations related to commercial, retail and industrial systems, offering expert design & build, installation, support, repair and replacement to a who’s who of satisfied clients along with comprehensive, cost effective systems of planned preventative maintenance.

Clients who incorporate a facilities maintenance package into their complete installation project can avail of greater long-term value-for-money and peace of mind, as director Vincent Geraghty confirms: “Through the addition of a facilities maintenance service, we can offer an extended post-installation warranty of up to seven years, so that we have them covered through the full lifetime of the system. Since we introduced the facilities management division, we are now in a position to offer a full turnkey service.”

Fully RGI, FGAS and Safe-T-Cert accredited, Alpha pride themselves on building and maintaining excellent client relationships through unrivalled workmanship and service, their mechanical services and facilities maintenance teams both working diligently and intelligently to ensure that client needs are not only met but exceeded.

Alpha Facilities Maintenance operate nationwide, servicing projects ranging from single-unit installations to major new build and refurbishment projects. Their HVAC facilities maintenance service is underpinned by close working relationships with suppliers of the latest technological advances and innovative, cost effective equipment coupled with detailed knowledge of product performance.

Specialising in the provision of design, installation, commissioning and aftercare of HVAC mechanical services, Alpha’s projects cover the commercial, retail, business, pharmaceutical, data centre, food processing and hospitality sectors, including air-conditioning VRF / VRV systems; air-conditioning split systems; data centre critical cooling systems; chillers; chilled water plants; ventilation systems; commercial and domestic boilers;

commercial heating plants; commercial plumbing systems; water services; and building energy management systems.

The company has built a reputation for providing a fast, friendly and professional service, delivering systems which are tailored to optimise project quality, cost and programme objectives.

Alpha Facilities Maintenance’s PPM programmes are designed to preserve and enhance equipment reliability by replacing worn components before they fail. This includes equipment checks, partial and / or complete overhauls at specified periods, oil / filter changes, seal replacements, etc.

Alpha Mechanical Services / Alpha Facilities Maintenance operate an unmatched 24-7 support service 365 days a year, with their support managers, dedicated service engineers and H&S officer taking full ownership of any support situation and comprehensively managing it until all repairs are complete in a safe and efficient manner.

Established by directors Alan Kelly and Vincent Geraghty in 2013, Alpha Mechanical Services is a full service commercial, retail and industrial HVAC mechanical services contractor with offices in Dublin and London. Alan and Vincent boast combined experience of almost 50 years in the sector, both having in-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, project management, facilities engineering, facilities maintenance, construction management, process development and mechanical design.

Serving local and national industry, the world’s largest companies and government entities, their teams bring sustainable innovation and differentiated capabilities that help clients create value, deliver business outcomes and improve performance.

Consistently providing full, largescale mechanical services installations on landmark commercial and industrial buildings for blue-chip clients nationwide, between both companies, Alpha Mechanical Services and Alpha Facilities Maintenance currently generate direct employment for a team of 92. Working on a number of healthcare projects and other works that were deemed essential, it has been a case of all systems go in recent times, including during the worst days of the restrictions introduced in response to Covid-19.

“We’re very busy at present and were kept going throughout Covid,” says Vincent. “We didn’t lay anybody off and retaining all of our staff was something we were very proud of. Thankfully, we have since gone from strength to strength.

“While we had the same general issues that everybody had to contend with, due to certain sites being closed down, we had enough essential services to keep everybody going. We went into Covid with a very healthy order book, picked up more projects and then became exceptionally busy due to all the projects that we couldn’t do during Covid. The result is that our order book is now very strong going all the way up to 2025.”

By any standards, Alpha Mechanical Services / Alpha Facilities Maintenance represents an extraordinary success story recorded inside a comparatively-short period of time. “In 2013, when we set the business up, we were still in the tail-end of a recession,” Vincent reflects. “The idea was that if we could make a go of the company in those times that we would naturally grow as the economy came back. That’s how things have worked out. Year on year, we have doubled our turnover and 2022 has been our best year to date.”

Vincent is on record as pointing out that one of Alpha Mechanical Services’ key strengths lies in the quality of their engineers and staff – and the consistent results and support they deliver to clients. A very strong management structure has been implemented within the company, including contracts managers and a dedicated facilities maintenance manager as well as their own in-house BIM technicians who can offer a full design-and-build service where required.

“We also take on ten apprentices a year to bring through our own talent and have linked that apprenticeship programme through the local schools and college,” the personable company co-founder concludes. “There is a shortage of tradesmen and people who want to get into the industry, so we feel that it’s important to have that programme in place to blood our own talent whilst promoting mechanical services as a career choice.”
