JCPS Mechanical Ltd was delighted to be a finalist in the 2023 Irish Construction Industry Awards which took place at The Mansion House, Dublin last November.
Shortlisted in the highly-competitive Sub-Contractor of the Year category, it marks another milestone in the 16-year history of the Ballycoolin, Dublin 11-based firm which has established itself as a leading name in mechanical contracting. Fronted by John Corr, JCPS Mechanical has earned a reputation for quality workmanship, outstanding customer service, exceptional attention to detail as well as an ability to complete all projects on time and within budget.
Specialising in the supply and installation of mechanical services to a variety of sectors, including retail, commercial, industrial, education, healthcare and fitout, JCPS Mechanical prides itself on its high-quality management systems and ability to meet the technical demands of the modern building industry. From humble beginnings, the company has grown to employ over 70 people and to provide a nationwide service. It boasts an impressive client list that includes GEM Group, Murphy Ireland, Elliott, Bennett Construction, Channor Real Estate, Sisk, Marlet, Walls, Bretland Construction and KM Lynskey Construction.
Launched in 2014, the Irish Construction Industry Awards recognise, encourage and celebrate original and innovative contractors, businesses, teams, consultants and projects that demonstrate excellence in the built environment. No stranger to winning awards – he won the gold medal for Ireland in the Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Apprentice of the Year competition in 2005 – John is thrilled with the nomination which comes on the back of JCPS Mechanical achieving ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and Safe-T-Cert accreditation.
“We got them all together and from that, one of our objectives was to receive an Irish Construction Industry Award nomination which we’ve done now and reflects very favourably on our team and quality systems,” says John, who is a plumber and pipe fitter by trade.
“We started out in 2007 doing small domestic and office refurbishment projects in Dublin. In 2014, we branched out into residential and commercial projects, working for the likes of GEM Group and Murphy Ireland who we continue to enjoy an excellent relationship with.
“My late father, Danny Corr, who sadly passed away in 2019, played a pivotal role in the formation of Murphy International in Ireland back in 1979 alongside Bernard Murphy and Bill Byrne. I’m delighted to say that our relationship with MIL remains as strong as ever. In fact, I had the privilege of working alongside my father as a pipefitter and welder during the construction of the Corrib Gas Pipeline in 2011.
“Since 2014, we’ve placed a strong emphasis on Health & Safety and quality, which has helped us to grow year-on-year.
“We moved into a new premises in Ballycoolin, which is just off the M50, in 2016 before extending and renovating it in 2021. We continue to go from strength to strength by providing an unrivalled service to main contractors, homeowners and property management companies.”
JCPS Mechanical has forged an enviable reputation for a diverse range of mechanical construction services. It installs and services technologically advanced and energy-efficient heating, air conditioning, plumbing and piping systems. From apartment blocks to residential developments, hospitals, sports stadia, manufacturing facilities, hotels, educational facilities and pharma plants, the highly-regarded mechanical contractor has everything covered.
JCPS Mechanical also counts among its clients the industry’s leading manufacturing and supply firms. The company believes in working closely with consultants, architects, main contractors and other trades as it recognises that the success of every project is built on strong communication channels which exist between the design, construction and client teams, accordingly delivering first-class installations safely, on time and within budget.
In addition, JCPS Mechanical offers ancillary services such as provision of maintenance services and domestic plumbing. Its work ethos ensures proper planning and execution of each project.
It goes without saying that the company’s greatest asset is its people. It has a top-class management and workforce who have acquired a wealth of knowledge, expertise and experience over the years, and enjoy a great rapport with clients. The JCPS Mechanical team consists of highly-skilled engineers, site managers, CAD technicians, foremen, plumbers, pipe fitters, metal fabricators, AC engineers, apprentices and office personnel who are supported by the same tried and tested subcontractors and suppliers.
John is joined on the management by his wife Eimear, contracts managers Shane Fagan and Marian Gallagher and chief operations officer Dermot Fuller. Phil O’Reilly heads up the domestic division, while John is passionate about promoting gender equality within the company.
“We have surrounded ourselves with great people who have made us what we are today. I’m particularly proud of the strong female involvement in our business. Marian Gallagher is part of the senior management, Amina Graves is our Health & Safety officer, while we have a number of other ladies involved, including BIM engineers, accounts, site administration and HR,” the affable managing director explains.
“We are deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of plumbers, pipefitters, and AC engineers through rigorous apprenticeship programs. Our dedication to this cause is evident in our regular training courses, which take place in our workshop every other Saturday.”
He continues: “We carry out sheet metal fabrication inhouse and have full BIM capabilities offsite. As a member of FGR, we’re able to undertake AC installations. We’re also members of Construct Secure, CIF, MEBSCA, CIPHE and RGII (Registered Gas Installer). We’re a one-stop shop for all your mechanical contracting needs.”
Commenting on some of JCPS Mechanical’s current / recent commercial and residential projects, John says: “We’re working on two Community Nursing Homes in Midleton and Athlone for main contractors. We’re also involved in residential projects with GEM and Bennett’s in Dunshaughlin and Dublin respectively.
“We’ve just finished work on Murphy International’s new fabrication building in Newbridge and a Premier Inn in Cork for Elliott’s. We also collaborated with Sisk and consultants PM Group on the NIBRT Research facility project in UCD. We’ve 30 vehicles on the road and are very busy,” he concludes.
John would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as his team and subcontractors for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
