Established in 2004, JF Building & Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd is a family-owned groundworks and civil engineering company based in
Kilmaley, Co. Clare. The company is run by brothers Fergal and Jonathan Warren who aim to provide efficient, safe and reliable services to their clients.
They do this by maintaining a modern fleet of plant and equipment, and employing a professional and highly-skilled workforce.
JF Building & Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd undertakes demolition works, site development, bulk excavation, groundworks, road building, pipeline construction, utilities installation and formwork for a wide range of clients for whom it is their contractor of choice. Over the years, the contractor has earned a reputation for delivering the highest quality work on time and within budget. A commitment to customer satisfaction, health & safety and quality workmanship has resulted in the company securing a large volume of repeat business from its clients.
“We got off to a good start, but then the recession hit and we had to scale back a good bit. Thankfully, the economic situation has improved in the last couple of years and we have 42 staff on our books at the moment,” Fergal explains.
“We do good work and always listen to what our customers have to say. Every project we undertake is completed to their exact requirements. We provide a wide range of services to customers throughout Munster, including formwork which we got into about four years ago.”
The Co. Clare-based company has an impressive array of plant and equipment to carry out any groundworks, demolition or civil engineering project. It runs no fewer than 26 track machines, ranging from three to 35 tonnes, five trucks comprising four tippers and one low-loader, as well as a number of dumpers, rollers and other related equipment. Whelan Plant Sales in Ennis and West Coast Truck & Plant in Kilmaley look after the maintenance, servicing and repair of the fleet.
JF Building & Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd has successfully completed numerous projects since 2004 and has developed a solid working relationship with many leading building contractors in that time. Currently, it is extracting 20,000m3 of muck from Free Zone West (Block E) at Shannon Airport for Shannon Commercial Properties. A 33,000 sq. ft. technology manufacturing unit is being constructed on the site by K&J Townmore Construction Ltd at a cost of €3.5 million.
Excavations works are also ongoing at the site of the new palliative care unit and the expansion of the existing nursing home at Milford Care Centre in Castletroy, Co. Limerick. Monami Construction are the main contractors on this project.
Past projects include CPL Fuels in Foynes, GE Sensing Shannon, Regeneron in Raheen, Co. Limerick, Dairygold in Mitchelstown, the Bernal Building in University of Limerick, Dew Valley Foods in Thurles, Cahercalla Community Hospital in Ennis, Mallow General Hospital and Gaelscoil Castletroy.
The CPL Fuels project involved extending the coal storage warehouse, which included relocating 33,000m3 of hardcore fill material. The scope of works at GE Sensing were extending the manufacturing facility, including substantial rock breaking and disposal off site for culvert diversion; completed groundworks, storm and surface water drainage, hard and soft landscaping. L&M Keating Ltd was the main contractor on both of these projects.
The external works at the 16-classroom Gaelscoil in Castletroy consisted of new drainage and service connections (gas electric, phone, water, SW and FW) from the perimeter of the site with a new access road and final landscaping. Attenuation and rainwater harvesting systems were installed and road markings and signage were also completed on behalf of K&J Townmore Construction.
The Dairygold project consisted of the construction of a low-rate digester tank and associated site works at what is the world’s largest 90 per cent demineralised whey facility. PJ Hegarty & Sons were the main contractors.
“We work for both private and public clients. We’ve worked for the likes of Element Six and EI Electronics in Shannon and alongside main contractors such as PJ Hegarty & Sons, L&M Keating, Monami Construction and K&J Townmore Construction,” Fergal says.
JF Building & Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd is a sister company of Fergal Warren Mechanical (Fergal Warren Plumbing & Heating) which was set up in 1995 and also operates from Kilmaley. A plumber by trade, Fergal is joined in the company by his father Tom, who previously ran his own plumbing and heating business, and 18 staff, many of whom have worked for the firm for over 10 years.
Like JF Building & Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd, Fergal Warren Mechanical has grown by providing a first-class service to clients and through its ability to get each job done in line with schedules and to the highest standard. By applying the ISO Quality management system to every project, the plumbing and heating specialist can provide full traceability of workmanship, materials, plant and finance for the project. This management system also helps the company project team to foresee any issues which may affect project programme, budget and installation standards.
“We have built a strong reputation with our clients for mechanical services in the healthcare, industrial, commercial and education sectors. Our mission is to give our clients a quality and reliable service through continually adopting to industry best practice. The two companies (Fergal Warren Mechanical and JF Building & Civil Engineering Contractors Ltd) regularly complement each other,” says Fergal, who concludes by thanking his clients for their continued support.
