Kellihers Electrical Ballymount leading the way

10 Feb , 2026

Congratulations to Dublin’s premier electrical wholesaler, Kellihers Electrical Ballymount, winners of the prestigious AEW Wholesaler of the Year Award at the 2025 EIFI (Electrical Industries Federation of Ireland) Awards! Building Ireland touched base with a delighted store manager Barry Dunne, who was quick to dedicate this fabulous national award to the proven excellence of his entire team.

Any day you leave Croke Park with a national title is a good day and such was the case for Kellihers Electrical Ballymount on Friday, September 19th, 2025 when they scooped the coveted Wholesaler of the Year award – an accolade that acknowledges the collaborative approach and commitment of the store’s knowledgeable team to bringing excellent customer service to electrical customers across Dublin.

Affable store manager Barry Dunne was more than pleased to depart GAA HQ with what is effectively an All-Ireland title! “Needless to say, we are absolutely delighted to win it,” he told Building Ireland. “It’s great to get recognition of this magnitude from within the industry and we are all extremely proud to have been named as electrical wholesaler of the year.”

Acknowledging, rewarding and promoting industry best practice across all sectors of the electrical supply chain, from product manufacture and distribution through to installation and project completion, the EIFI Electrical Industry Awards are the highlight of the electrical industry calendar. This year’s award winners were celebrated over a gala lunch at the Cusack & Ash Suite, Croke Park on the third Friday afternoon of September, with none other than RTE GAA broadcasting icon Marty Morrissey as compere.

With 23 branches across the Republic of Ireland, Kellihers Electrical is Ireland’s leading electrical wholesaler, serving electrical industry professionals all over Ireland on a daily basis. Their comprehensive stock profile, reliable delivery, competitive pricing and knowledgeable staff are the reasons why customers keep coming back again and again.

Kellihers Electrical Ballymount’s success at the EIFI Awards comes on the back of consistently providing high-quality products and unbeatable service levels, which Barry attributes to the experienced, helpful, dedicated and customer-focused team on hand:

“It’s all down to the team, many of whom have been here for many years – without them we’d have nothing. Every member of the team is vitally important. This award is for everyone who works here – from the back office to the stores to the customer-facing staff, they are all equally important to the branch.”

Kellihers Electrical Ballymount is one of the flagship stores in the industry-leading Kellihers Electrical / Rexel Group. A global leader in the distribution of domestic, commercial and industrial electrical supplies and services, the Rexel Group – which has a network of almost 2,000 branches across 21 countries – purchased Kellihers Electrical in 2006, significantly strengthening their buying power and market presence.

Commenting on the journey and remarkable progress Kellihers Electrical Ballymount has made in firmly establishing itself as Dublin’s electrical wholesaler of choice over the past 28 years and counting, the branch manager continues:

“This store has been open since 1997 and has grown and expanded year on year to where it is today – one of the biggest and busiest stores within the company network. The business has progressed, evolved and moved with the times, always striving to provide our customers with the best possible products and service.”

Barry has been part of the Kellihers Electrical team for more than 20 years, serving in two other branches before taking up a position at the Ballymount store in 2012, where he has been store manager since 2019.

“It’s been going great, albeit in challenging times,” he comments. “An industry that was once static is now changing fast and you have to move in line with those changes to retain your position at the front of the market. We are constantly looking at ways to improve our service and strengthen our place as market leaders.

“In the last couple of years we have upgraded our trade counter and sales office as well as introducing a pre-order collection counter. We’ve also put in place a 24-hour collection container for customers, which a number of our other branches also have.

“Furthermore, about 18 months ago, the group opened a new 100,000 sq ft national distribution centre in Baldonnell Business Park, to feed all our branches. All of these developments will go a long way towards preserving our status as market leaders in Ireland.”

As for the inherent strengths of Kellihers Electrical Ballymount, which have contributed to this remarkable industry-leading, award-winning success story, Barry concludes:

“We’re very big on having the right culture, and always  putting our customers first. We realise that without customers there would be no business, so we have to place them front and centre.

“As well as the products themselves, you have to be able to provide knowledge and information on all the products you sell, so staff must be regularly trained and upskilled to deliver that to customers wherever required.

“Good staff is everything. We have a lot of long-serving staff here, who came through internally and have been promoted from within. They bring invaluable knowledge to the business.

“As a branch, and as a company, we are still growing year on year. We’ve always been ahead of the curve when it comes to sustainability and specialist areas as well. For example, about ten years ago, we had the foresight to set up a renewables division and that has been going from strength to strength.”
