Light Years Ahead

23 Sep , 2020

Electric Skyline came up trumps once again when it received the Highly Commended Award for the fourth year running at the 28th annual NISO / NISG All-Ireland Occupational Safety Awards which took place in the Galmont Hotel, Galway on October 11 last.

The Awards were established nationally in 1992 with just 20 entries and have since grown to become Ireland’s premier safety awards. They became an All-Ireland affair when the Northern Ireland Safety Group (NISG) joined forces with the National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) in 1995. There is huge prestige attached to winning a NISO / NISG Award which demonstrate the positive and proactive culture of safety management that exists within a business.

“We were delighted to win for the fourth year in-a-row,” Electric Skyline health & safety manager Laura Walsh says.

“The Award is great recognition for our company and our people. Our submission was based on safety performance. We pride ourselves on our impeccable safety record in what is a high-risk environment. Health & safety is a priority from the top down. We go above and beyond what our clients expect when it comes to health & safety.”

The Award came on the back of a major jobs announcement by the rapidly-growing Claremorris, Co. Mayo-based company which specialises in public lighting, sports lighting, commercial lighting, lighting design and domestic LED lighting. In response to a continued expansion of its product offering and the recent awarding of major new projects, Electric Skyline has recruited over 20 new employees to join its existing team of 50, bringing the total number to 71. The new positions are based in South Connacht and Munster, and include apprentices, electricians, project programmer & process manager and project managers.

“We’ve been awarded a four-year contract by the TLI Group to fit smart metres on behalf of the ESB in the South of Ireland,” operations manager Brendan Reilly explains.

“We are also contracted to carry out public lighting maintenance for the Local Authorities in Connacht, Longford andWestmeath. As well as creating new jobs, we took delivery of 20 new Renault Trafic  vans from Shaw Commercials in Castlebar. We now have a fleet of over 50 vehicles including  trucks with hiab cranes and 46kv insulated hoists.

“Our growth is testament to the high quality of our work and the innovative solutions delivered by our teams right across Ireland. Success is achieved by working as a team across all our projects.”

Electric Skyline managing director Sean Corcoran added: “Demand for our services have increased significantly over the past 12 months. This is mainly due to organisations realising the benefits of the solutions that we provide such as LED lighting, which have a positive impact on their bottom line whilst contributing positively to their environmental and social agenda. Our business continues to evolve and keep pace in a very dynamic and exciting sector.”

It has certainly been an eventful few months for the company who in July acquired renewable and biomass energy specialists PV Energy Ireland and BioEnergy Technology. Commercial director Bryan Fox says: “This has added greatly to our range of product and service offering, and fits in well with our overall group mission and vision. Our business is energy – our passion is a sustainable future.”

Electric Skyline is one of Ireland’s leading energy and lighting specialists, providing energy and lighting solutions to a range of sectors such as local authorities, sporting organisations, including the GAA, agriculture, commercial and domestic. The solutions ensure longevity and sustainability for its clients which include construction firms Sisk, SIAC, Kirby Group Engineering and Glenveagh Properties along with Philips Lighting (Signify) and tech giants Intel.

The company provides lighting solutions throughout all 32 counties and maintains in excess of 65,000 public lights across eight local authorities. It is also one of the largest dedicated sports lighting contractors in Ireland. Its team are highly skilled and experienced in commercial lighting, public lighting, sports lighting, solar lighting and intelligent traffic systems.

“We now provide energy solutions across the spectrum, including solar and biomass, and we also providing energy saving and smart lighting solutions for homes through our growing online shop, www.lightingstore.ie. We have a wide range of our products on display in our new showroom on Dalton Street, Claremorris as well,” says Brendan Reilly, who set up the company along with Sean Corcoran and Bryan Fox in 2007.

“The three of us had worked for the ESB and could see that there was an opening for the type of service we provide. We started the day the recession began. The upside to this was that we weren’t tied to or reliant on any company that went out of business at that time. We secured work on sites that were uncompleted and grew from there.”

Electric Skyline staff were delighted to raise €25,000 for Cancer Care West from their ‘Relay Charity Challenge’, which was held on September 14 last. Over 30 staff members took part in a marathon challenge that involved a relay of running, kayaking, cycling and walking all the way from Killary, Co. Galway to Claremorris. To start off, they took part in Gaelforce West from Killary to Westport, which also entailed climbing Croagh Patrick. Following on from this, they ran, cycled and walked from Westport to Claremorris to complete a full marathon.

“The event was a fantastic way to help and support a great charity like Cancer Care West. It was also an opportunity to bring our staff together to work as a team to reach our goal. We hope that our charity challenge will make a difference to people’s lives,” Brendan concludes.

In summary, choosing Electric Skyline is an easy decision because it has a proven health & safety record; strength and depth in its team; is a quality supplier of lighting solutions; boasts a dedicated project management team; provides technical expertise and comprehensive and timely reporting throughout each project; has a proven track record for delivery; provides customer service big enough to handle large-scale projects across multiple sites, and small enough to care and value the customer.
