25 Oct , 2022

Over the past decade, Magan Construction has established itself as one of Ireland’s leading turnkey contractor specialists, and even has the awards to prove it! A young and dynamic company, Magan Construction employs 11 people and boasts a growing client list which includes the HSE, Skechers, Aeropostale, 53 Degrees North, Xtishoes Ireland, The Savoy Hotel in Limerick and Alex Findlater & Company. It is also engaged in many private cleanroom projects.

The latest accolade to be bestowed on the Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath-based concern is a Public Sector Business Construction Services Award. “It’s lovely to be recognised like that. It reflects well on us and our sub-contractors,” says founder and managing director Richard Crone.

With a team of highly-skilled professionals, there is no retail, commercial or public sector project that Magan Construction cannot deliver. “We’re a one-stop shop for all your fitout requirements,” Richard notes.

Magan Construction prides itself on delivering outstanding projects across the commercial, industrial, retail, hospitality, educational and healthcare sectors. Its expert team will work through and advise you on your construction plans, and will look after all elements of the construction, including project management. The Magan team can also manage all aspects of logistics, including deliveries and storage.

The company’s range of services include specification, design and architecture, project management, fit-out, refurbishment, M&E works and facilities management to name but a few.

“We have 11 full-time staff who are complemented by a great crew of sub- contractors. We use the same tried and trusted contractors for every project so we can guarantee consistency of service.  It’s a real team effort from everyone. We can do anything that a client requires, including full design and build. We have delivered a variety of projects across a range of sectors and have many long-standing clients,” Richard explains.

In the past year, Magan Construction has completed a Skechers store at Kildare Village, two Asics stores in Liffey Valley Shopping Centre and O’Connell Street, Dublin, two American Eagle stores in Jervis Street, Dublin and Whitewater Shopping Centre, Newbridge as well as a full revamp of The Sister’s Social Bar in Limerick.

Currently, the turnkey contractor is refurbishing a large Victorian house for the Savoy Group collection in Limerick and is fitting out its latest Skechers store in Navan Shopping Centre. It is also due to start work on another new Skechers store in Liffey Valley Shopping Centre soon.

“We’ve fitted out 20 Skechers shops to exact specifications to date,” he continues.

“Repeat business is key for us. We were awarded the Victorian house refurbishment project on the back of carrying out a full refurbishment to the hotel library, bar and entrance foyer of The Savoy Hotel with leading interior designer, Tullio Orlandi.

“We also completed a full fitout of the 18,000 sq. ft. Alex Findlater & Co Food and Wine Hotel in O’Connell Street, Limerick in 2019. It is located on the ground floor of The George Hotel, which is also part of the Savoy Group collection in the heart of the city’s shopping and restaurant quarter.”

Furthermore, Magan Construction is a leading supplier of cleanrooms and cleanroom solutions, offering end-to-end cleanroom installation solutions which span concept through cleanroom construction to commissioning, fitout and support. Its cleanroom fitout can include the supply of customised cleanroom furniture developed to meet the clients’ particular needs.

Magan Construction’s services were also sought during the Covid-19 crisis when it delivered an emergency project at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown. The Westmeath contractor was specified to carry out the full refurbishment of a new Covid-19 facility to increase the hospital’s capacity to care for patients who had contracted the coronavirus.

“We worked through the national lockdown to deliver a 22-bed emergency unit at Connolly Hospital. It kept us busy at a time when most building contractors weren’t permitted to operate,” Richard recalls.

“As an essential service, we also built five kitchenettes to reduce the risk of staff contracting Covid and a link structure to the mobile CT scanner. The new link structure is a lightweight modular design to accelerate the works programme and minimise time on site. In addition, we installed two heavy machines for 3M Manufacturing in Athlone which came from Limerick.”

Safe Electric and SparkSafe registered, the innovative company invests heavily in upskilling and training its staff to ensure every project is carried out to perfection. Magan Construction evolved from DMC Electrical, which was an electrical contracting company headed up by Richard’s father Martin.

“We were primarily electrical contractors up to 2008 when we decided to diversify. That’s when Magan Construction was born and my father has remained involved in a consultancy capacity. The name ‘Magan’ comes from a place in the Middle East where we lived for three years. We continue to be a family-run business,” the affable managing director adds.

To summarise, Magan Construction is a leading shop-fitting and retail fit-out specialist. Its expertise in fit-outs range from retail, pharmaceutical, jewellery and fashion to office and medical solutions The company offers a complete holistic approach to fitout for both new and renovation projects, working alongside the client throughout each project to ensure their needs are not only met, but exceeded. The sky’s the limit for the burgeoning Westmeath company!
