Building Ireland touched base with managing director Joe O’Riordan to get an update on this exceptional, industry-leading operation.

Invariably, each project is completed within programme and to the highest standards of safety, performance and professionalism, providing optimal access solutions and ensuring that the company benefits from a high volume of repeat business from a who’s who of the nation’s main contractors, lending their specialist touch to prestigious developments the length and breadth of the country, predominantly in the capital and midlands.
At the time of writing, Maor Scaffolding were busy working for the Eriugena consortium on Dublin Institute of Technology’s new Grangegorman Campus Development in the north inner city, a massive, landmark project that will continue through into 2020.
Other recent and ongoing projects include Capital Dock for John Sisk & Son (which includes Ireland’s tallest residential building), Spencer Place for PJ Hegarty, Hanover Quay for John Sisk & Son, Enterprise House and Frascati Shopping Centre in Blackrock for Collen Construction (for whom they also provided scaffolding expertise at Central Park, Sandyford), Stillorgan Shopping Centre with John Paul Construction as well as ongoing work at Dublin Airport, Diageo and a number of pharmaceutical projects.
A commitment to high quality workmanship, service, safety and value-for-money ensures the firm continues to go from strength to strength. At present, they are busier than ever, coordinating up to 30 projects large and small on average at any given time, generating direct employment for up to 160 people.
“Excellent staff are key to the company’s success and we’re very fortunate to benefit from a low turnover of staff,” notes MD Joe O’Riordan. “Up to 80 or 90 of our men have been with us for five years or more, while another 25 or so have been here for more than two years. We maintain very good relationships with our staff and we feel it’s important to look after them and hold onto them. Being able to call on experienced and skilled personnel means you can consistently deliver high-quality work.
“When you are working for the biggest names in construction, meeting the programme is everything and you have to be able to deliver on time every time. Obviously, safety is another area where you have to excel and everything at Maor Scaffolding is carried out to the very highest standards when it comes to safety.”
Indeed, in order to consistently deliver safe access solutions on-site, the company employs a full-time safety officer, who makes sure the highest safety standard is achieved on all scaffolding projects and that all staff members are fully trained in the best Health & Safety practices. Maor Scaffolding’s qualified and trusted scaffold erectors have comprehensive experience and training in scaffolding and safety.
The company regularly re-trains staff to ensure their scaffolding skills are kept as sharp as possible, using their own fleet of vehicles to transport materials, ensuring that scaffolding is erected, dismantled and removed efficiently and professionally.
Maor Scaffolding was founded in Straffan, County Kildare in 2006 by Joe O’Riordan and Thomas Magan, who between them boast more than half a century’s experience in the scaffolding sector. Quickly outgrowing its original premises, the company relocated to Kingswood Cross, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 seven years ago.
Maor Scaffolding has worked to exceptionally high standards of excellence on many iconic projects down through the years, including the Aviva Stadium at Lansdowne Road, The Central Criminal Court, the new Guinness Brewhouse at St. James’ Gate, Sandymount Business Park, the GPO, Liffey Valley Shopping Centre, Tullamore Dew Visitor Centre, the Mater Hospital and the stunning 19th century Humewood Castle.
