Marlhill Construction Services Ltd is a multi-faceted building contractor based in Ardfinnan, Co. Tipperary. The family-run business is a building, fit-out and project management company rolled into one. It offers the full range of residential, commercial, Conservation & Renovation  and building services, including management contracting, design and build, and traditional building arrangements. Marlhill Construction Services Ltd is also a developer of public-private partnerships and applies its expertise to everything from small renovations to multi-million euro projects.

We have a very good track record for delivering public works. and this has opened up many doors for us.”

No stranger to educational projects, Marlhill Construction Services Ltd was recently awarded its biggest project to date which is the design and build package for the new WWETB (Waterford & Wexford Education Training Board) facility in Waterford Industrial Park. The €8.5 million development will involve a change of use from industrial to further education and apprentice training facility use as well as internal alterations to accommodate technical workshops, classrooms, offices and associated facilities.

The scope of works also includes a single story infill extension to the front; elevational alterations; realignment of two existing vehicular entrances to form one access; relocation of existing on-site ESB substation to the rear; external welding gas storage unit to the rear; associated roof-mounted plant and roof-mounted PV panels together with external maintenance stairs to roof at the rear; 2.4m high palisade  fencing to part new boundaries; realignment of existing parking to front together with additional car parking and bicycle parking facilities to site; demolition of two storage units to rear of adjoining ETB training facility to allow vehicular access to rear of site; one totem signage pole and building mounted sign along with all associated site development works.

The design team and project management team involved in this project include Bryan McCarthy & Associates Waterford Consulting Engineers and project managers Woods Project Services , Mechanical and Electrical services consultant , GSP Fire Ltd, Fire and DAC services , JOT Energy Consultants and Meskell and Associates Quantity Surveyors .

“Works on repurposing the existing industrial building to a training facility have been progressing well since we started before Christmas. The new facility will be a great asset to the Government’s plan to develop apprenticeships across the country.

“The ETB are doing great work in developing apprenticeships. Our graduates are highly sought-after around the world. We recently took on two apprentices ourselves who have been great additions to the team.”

Having previously delivered the first, second and fourth phases, Marlhill Construction Services will shortly commence works on the fifth and final phase of an extension to Tipperary ETB’s Further Education & Training Centre in Archerstown, Thurles. The works will incorporate an extension to the existing canteen, classroom upgrades and the installation of new lift shafts.

The Premier County builder has consistently met, and exceeded the requirements of private and public sector clients alike, from the Department of Defence and Department of Education to the HSE, Coolmore Stud and Mary Immaculate College (Mary I), TQS Integration Ltd and Tipperary County Council just to name but a few. 

“We completed two projects for the Department of Defence in Cork and Kilkenny last year. We’ve also carried out two or three projects at the Mary I Campus in Thurles in the past 14 months. We’re attracting new clients all the time and have a lot of work ahead of us,” continues Jamie, whose mother Betty is also involved in the day-to-day running of the family business as administrator in head office.
