Martin Cussen Construction & Civil Engineering Ltd is a long-established family business specialising in construction, civil engineering and plant hire. Based in Newcastle West, Co. Limerick, it continues to go from strength to strength by delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget whilst adhering to the highest Health & Safety standards.

Founded over 50 years ago by Martin Cussen Snr, the company is now fronted by his son Martin Cussen Jnr and employs 48 people who are supported by the same tried and trusted subcontractors. Martin Snr remains involved as a valued advisor and director in the second-generation business which prides itself on its ability to offer complete customer satisfaction. Whether it is cost certainty, planning and scheduling, Health & Safety or quality, the Cussen team’s innate understanding of all the processes and risks involved gives clients the peace of mind that they have chosen the right contractor to carry out their work competently and safely.

Along with valuing its clients, Martin Cussen Construction & Civil Engineering Ltd is grateful for the dedication, loyalty and expertise of its staff. Working positively to achieve their targets, the Cussen workforce take full responsibility for their actions and always produce outstanding results. It is for this reason that the company continually invests in training for its people.

“My father always had the ethos of ensuring that the client was happy and that has not only helped our reputation, but has been our best form of advertising,” Martin Jnr says.

Martin Cussen Construction & Civil Engineering Ltd is a one-stop shop for all your construction, structural steel and plant hire needs. The company offers a full range of construction services to support its clients in both the commercial and private sectors. Its team includes highly-skilled and expert industry professionals who ensure exceptional delivery for all building and construction projects. The work involved includes demolition services, project planning, project management, full construction using all required professional trades, dealing with building regulations and, following completion, creating ongoing maintenance schedules. Expertise, service and competitive pricing are the hallmarks of the family business.

The structural steel division has the experience, training and equipment to create structural steel frames quickly and efficiently as well as being fully qualified to the industry CE mark standard. The Cussen team are accustomed to the need to erect these structures on very busy sites as cost effectively as possible. They offer a complete design, build and installation service to meet all your requirements. On site, they can assemble any structure in a fast and efficient manner, and can undertake any modifications as needed.

The plant hire division sees the company offer for hire a wide range of mobile and construction equipment. It is constantly reinvesting to ensure the client-base is supplied with safe and reliable equipment such as excavators (0.5 tonne to 30 tonne), bulldozers, teleporters, dumpers, forklifts, mobile cranes, compressors and breakers, fuel bowsers, water bowsers, rollers and much more.

“The structural steel division is the latest service to be provided by us. We found that in order to provide a complete range of services, we needed to include this, and are happy with the way that it has been integrated into the business,” Martin Jnr continues.

“We can take a greenfield site and bring the project through to completion with the services that we provide. This removes a lot of stress for the client who then doesn’t need to be chasing different contractors as we look after everything.”

Cussen Construction & Civil Engineering Ltd boasts a wide and varied client-base which ranges from local authorities to blue-chip companies. One of its largest recent projects was an 80,000 sq. ft. frozen food storage unit for KCS Logistics in Raheenagh, Co. Limerick. The project took 15 months to complete. The contractor is currently working on a new warehouse for Dairygold Food Ingredients at their Castlefarm site in Mitchelstown and on a piggery for Teagasc at their Moorepark Farm in Fermoy. Indeed, agriculture is a sector the company is looking to make bigger inroads into in the coming years.

Martin Cussen Construction & Civil Engineering Ltd’s Health & Safety policy and management approach is based on working to the maximum level that is laid down by law and to always work within the clients’ Health & Safety rules and procedures. The approach also incorporates teamwork and supervision which is driven by the belief that we all have a right to a safe and healthy work environment. The Co. Limerick contractor’s goal is to consistently provide its staff and workforce with the training, instruction, information and equipment needed to carry out its work in a manner that ensures everyone’s safety and health.

“Everything revolves around the Health & Safety of our employees. We can’t emphasise enough the importance and the responsibility we take on our employees. Safety isn’t expensive – it’s priceless”.

The successful family business would like to take this opportunity to thank its clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as its staff and subcontractors for all their hard work.
