By employing highly-skilled people, collaborating with clients’ design teams and engineers, and using only the very best building products, this fully-insured contractor is able to deliver construction projects of the highest standards.
MCA Construction’s small but dedicated team is supported and supplemented by the same tried and tested subcontractors, including Owen Murphy Plumbing, Virginia Concepts Electrical and Colm Walsh Electrical. The contractor also enjoys an excellent working relationship with Murray & Gillespie Quantity Surveyors, McMahon Safety and various architects, including Will Design Studio, as well as its main suppliers Grange Builders Providers, Ganly’s, Chadwicks, BD Flood and Kilsaran.
Hailing from St Margaret’s, which is close to Dublin Airport, Michael McArdle has been in the building trade since he was 16. “I started out working with my uncle doing extensions and attic conversions around Dublin. I trained as a carpenter and went self-employed in ’97,” he recalls.
“I worked with architect Michael Hogan on a number of house extensions and renovations before Ballymun Regeneration Ltd (BRL) was formed by Dublin City Council to develop and implement a regeneration plan in the area. I was involved in drafting the master plan which led to me getting a lot of work in the area. I was actually the first subcontractor hired by BRL.
“I completed a scheme of 22 new houses in Ballymun after starting out doing the first and second carpentry fixing on them. The last project I worked on for BRL was the conversion of the Ballymun Boiler House into a Rediscovery Centre.”
As part of the regeneration project, MCA Construction also built the first A-rated energy efficient home in Dublin at Belclare Drive, Poppintree, Ballymun. Michael worked closely with BRL, the architects and building inspectors to complete a high standard of finish throughout the house.
“We were very proud of that one. The house was built to a high specification to reflect the advances in building technologies at the time. Insulation values for the walls, roofs and floors were higher than before, while the heating system used solar panels to reduce running costs. All of this was still very new at the time,” he says.
LWETB has become one of Michael’s most valued clients since he moved to the midlands in 2006.
“We do everything from roof repairs, window replacements, energy upgrades and alarm installations to classroom and sensory room extensions and renovations for them,” he explains.
“We’ve done a lot of work in Ardscoil Phadraig Granard and Castlepollard Community College in particular. We also carry out renovations to Dublin City Council’s social housing stock and have just completed two new houses for Longford County Council at Congress Terrace on a site where we demolished an existing house.
“In addition, we’re working on new private builds in Malahide and Clontarf, and recently installed IPS panels at St Vincent’s Hospital in Athy. We’ve been involved in several hospital ward upgrades over the years.”
Michael is pleased with how business is going, adding: “We’re getting plenty of work which is good to see. We have a great relationship with our clients who are only ever a phone call away. About 90% of our business is secured through word of mouth which speaks volumes about our high-quality work and customer service. We will always go the extra mile for our customers.”
As MCA Construction continues to go from strength to strength, its affable managing director would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients, suppliers, subcontractors and design teams for their unwavering support as well as his direct employees for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
