Despite being just three years in existence, Metal Deck Ireland Ltd has developed an enviable reputation for the delivery of quality projects. Directors Thomas Nugent and Conor McGlinchey’s in-depth understanding of the company’s chosen area of expertise gave them a head start.

Thomas Nugent and his brother-in-law, Conor McGlinchey, are the brains behind the operation. The pair boast a wealth of experience and knowledge in the building sector and came together to set up the company in May, 2015.
“I come from a QS background while Conor is more site orientated,” Thomas remarked in conversation with Building Ireland. “Between the two of us we have a combined 35 years of experience in our chosen line of work. In addition, we employ five direct employees and at busy times we employ the services of sub-contractors. So, at any one time, we could have up to 18 working for us.”
As a customer focused company and having embraced new technologies, Thomas and Conor are proud of their philosophy in providing excellent customer service at all times.
“We had a light switch moment which prompted us to go out on our own,” he continued. “From past experience, we always thought we could deliver a bit sharper to clients so we decided to become our own bosses. As a result, I suppose you could say that the setting up of the company came about by accident rather than design.”
The Metal Deck Ireland name is synonymous with quality workmanship and their services are very much in demand at this point in time. Their portfolio of successfully completed projects includes the soon to be open Center Parcs in Longford as well as the Southern Regional College in Armagh on behalf of Felix O’Hare and Company.
“Jobs we have on the go at the moment includes an eight storey metal floor deck project with Leonards, Ballybay/Bennett Construction on Sir John Rogerson Quay in Dublin and a pharmaceutical job in Navan.”

“It’s a specialised trade to a certain extent which means we have to travel. If you are not prepared to travel then it will prove difficult to make a living. We cover the length and breadth of Ireland. As I said, we’re down in Meath at the moment while we finished an office block, on behalf of O’Flynn Construction, in Cork last year. Even though we are only up and running for three years, we are already finding that we are attracting a lot of repeat business.”
The two directors are fully prepared to roll up their sleeves if and when required and Thomas believes this approach will stand them in good stead as he looks ahead to the future.
“We do whatever has to be done. We’re not afraid to lift a nail gun and a saw if it means keeping our clients happy. Ireland is a small country and you can’t leave people with bad taste in their mouth.
“Things will naturally grow year on year,” he added on the subject of expansion. “We have doubled our turnover this year on the previous year and we have a couple of large jobs in the pipeline for the months ahead.”
