Celebrating 15 years in business, MH (Martin Hartnett) Construction Ltd is leading building contracting firm in the Mid-West region specialising in new one-off homes, extensions and renovations as well as commercial projects.

Looking to build your dream home in the countryside or thinking of extending or renovating? If so, MH Construction in Knockderk, Bruff, Co. Limerick can make it a reality.

When building your forever home, you need to ensure you have help from the professionals. To this end, MH Construction’s team has a wealth of experience and expertise in all types of new construction builds and refurbishments. The company has earned an enviable reputation for building beautiful bespoke one-off homes that are energy efficient, high-performing, comfortable and tastefully designed. Furthermore, it offers a full turnkey solution by taking care of the entire project from groundworks right through to the final stages of construction.

While MH Construction Ltd has been trading since 2010, its founder and owner Martin Hartnett has almost 40 years’ experience in the industry.

“I’m 54 now and left school at 15 to serve my time as a blocklayer,” he explains.

“I followed my late father Tommy Hartnett into the business. He worked as a general labourer with some of the leading construction companies at the time who built the big housing estates in Limerick City. I became a sole trader in 1996, working as a blocklayer but also dabbling in extensions and house building, before evolving into a full building services provider in 2010.

“My 14-year-old son Darragh works with me during his school holidays, and hopefully he will follow in my footsteps and carry on the family tradition.

“Construction has changed drastically over the years. Since I started, there is a lot more paperwork involved and technology too. You’ll get left behind if you don’t move with the times.”

Superior workmanship, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of MH Construction. Health & Safety is also of the utmost importance with the welfare and safety of employees, subcontractors and visitors being monitored daily. From concept to completion, Martin and his professional team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your home is designed and built to your specific needs.

MH Construction’s one-stop shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Co. Limerick contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete the most challenging of projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from architects / engineers and clients alike.

By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with design teams and using only the very best building products, this fully insured contractor is able to deliver the highest quality construction.

Martin is joined in the business by eight direct employees, including Foreman Lar Small, Project Manager Sarah Deegan and Finance Manager Elaine Moran. The team is supported and supplemented by the same tried and tested subcontractors, including O’Brien Brothers Plumbing & Heating, Philip Sullivan Plumbing, McAuliffe Electrical, Martin O’Toole Electrical, plasterers Raymond Daly and Dominic Daly, Bruff Block & Build Southwest Radon and B. Harte Electrical.

MH Construction’s main suppliers are Chadwicks in Limerick, MD O’Shea’s Builders Merchants in Charleville, Bruff Building Supplies, Gleeson Concrete, Munster Joinery and Lynch Quarries. The contractor also collaborates on a regular basis with engineers Liam McElligott and Chris Casey, and architects Seamus McElligott and Feeney McMahon.

Business is flying for the MH Construction team who undertake an average of 18 projects a year.

“We’re building 13 or 14 new one-off houses per year, with renovations and extensions making up the balance,” Martin says.

“Most of the work is local, but we also cover parts of Tipperary and Clare. The new houses are traditional block-built. That’s what our clients insist on. They typically range from 2,000 sq. ft. to 3,000 sq. ft. in size, are A-rated and well-designed. We pride ourselves on our honesty and exceptional customer service. For the vast majority of people, building their own home is the biggest investment they will ever make and it’s only right that they’re treated fairly and given the right advice.

“Another competitive advantage we have is the expertise and passion of our crew. We’re motivated to achieve the elements needed to provide project success and build structures that will leave a lasting impression. We’re a one-stop shop for all your building needs.”

MH Construction also offers building services to clients in the commercial sector and is currently carrying out an extension, comprising consultation and waiting rooms, to a doctor’s surgery in Bruff.

“Our business is 80% residential and 20% commercial,” the affable Limerick man points out.

As MH Construction continues to go from strength to strength, Martin would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients, suppliers and design teams for their continued support as well as his staff and subcontractors for their hard work, dedication and expertise.

Here’s to the next 15 years and many more!
