Celebrating 25 years in business, MMEL (Michael McMahon Electrical Ltd) is a highly-regarded electrical contracting firm based in Kilmaley, Co. Clare. The RECI and Safe Electric-registered contractor caters for clients in the domestic, commercial, industrial, agricultural and public sectors.
Fronted by Michael McMahon, the company employs 15 people and has 10 vehicles on the road covering the Mid-West region and beyond. MMEL offers a wide range of services, including industrial, commercial, maintenance, data cabling, fault finding, periodic inspection reports, burglar alarm and fire alarm installation, CCTV installation, EV charging point installation, Cat 5, Cat 6 and Cat 6a installations, fibre optic installation, domestic and public lighting, all electrical installations, full certification and testing. Other services such as PAT testing are available on request.
Safe Electric ensures that all registered electrical contractors are operating to the relevant national standards and technical rules. This includes inspecting their work on an ongoing basis and carrying out disciplinary actions where necessary. MMEL is dedicated to ensuring the safety and welfare of its employees as well as others who are affected by its operations through the observation of the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act 2005.
“We provide a full turnkey service to clients in both the private and public sectors. While most of our work is concentrated in the Mid-West, distance is no object. We’ve worked as far away as Donegal, Dublin and Dundalk recently,” says Michael, whose wife Fiona and son Luke – who is an apprentice electrician – are also involved in the business.
“I started out as a sole trader in 1996 before forming a limited company in 2006. Over the last 25 years, we have earned a reputation for quality workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and adhering to the highest safety standards. We’ve built up a large and loyal customer-base. Indeed, some of our customers have been with us since the very beginning.”

Armada Hotel, Spanish Point and Old Ground Hotel, Ennis.
The company also regularly works in conjunction with local building firms such as M Fitzgibbon Contractors, Custy Construction, CDME Construction, QCON Construction, CORCON Construction and James Malone Construction, Jada Construction, Woodhaven Developments, Michael Clancy Builders, DNCF Building & Civil Solutions, Neville Civil Works as well as Clúid Housing.
Michael and his crew have been engaged in the installation and commissioning of a mobile pallet racking system for Jungheinrich in Dublin since the start of the year. They are also carrying out a similar project for WuXi Biologics in Dundalk. The installation of EV charging points and public lighting is another growing area for the company.
Other current / recent projects include electrical fitouts for Clúid Housing in Bruree, Co. Limerick and LCETB in Ennis. In addition, the contractor is working on behalf of M Fitzgibbon Contractors on social and private housing schemes in Ennis and new offices for Ward & Burke in Charleville, Custy Construction on a social housing development in Newmarket and CORCON on the new Nenagh Tourist Office.
MMEL also recently teamed up with Fergal Warren Plumbing & Heating Contractors to undertake the mechanical installation services on a project at Glór Theatre in Ennis. The project included the installation of a new boiler system, fire dampers and new AHUs (air handling units).
