More industry recognition for M&P Mechanical

17 Oct , 2025

M&P Mechanical, a multi-award-winning family-run business specialising in district heating, plumbing, mechanical and ventilation installations, servicing, and customer aftercare across Ireland, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Subcontractor of the Year Award at the 2025 Irish Construction Industry Awards.

This recognition is about more than contracts; it is a testament to the vision, dedication, and talented people who have shaped M&P Mechanical into one of Ireland’s leading mechanical contractors.

When Mark and Pauline O’Rourke first set out in 2011, M&P Mechanical was little more than “three men in a van.” With Mark on the tools and Pauline managing operations, the couple began building their reputation project by project. Every job was an opportunity to demonstrate professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety; principles that would become the foundation of the company’s ethos.

“When I first set out, it was just myself in a van with two apprentices. Today, to see M&P Mechanical recognised as a finalist for Subcontractor of the Year is something I’m very proud of,” says Mark

“What began as a small operation has grown into a well-known family business that Pauline and I built from the ground up. This recognition reflects the dedication of our entire team; from those on site every day to the staff in our offices who keep the wheels turning. It’s a celebration of how far we’ve come and a testament to the people who continue to drive M&P Mechanical forward.”

Fourteen years later, M&P Mechanical employs over 100 direct skilled tradespeople, supported by 20 office and engineering staff, and manages up to 150 subcontractors on projects nationwide. Despite this growth, the company has never lost the family ethos that drives every decision, every installation, and every handover.

Family is at the very heart of the business. Many staff have been with M&P for over a decade, growing alongside the company. Mark and Pauline’s children, Darren and Niamh, now play a central role in operations, bringing fresh energy and innovative ideas to the leadership table alongside senior directors TJ Collier, James Linehan, and Elaine Ward.

TJ Collier, Operations Director explains: “It’s rare to find a company that combines family values with professional expertise on this scale. There’s loyalty here that goes beyond a paycheque. People genuinely care about each other and the work we deliver.”

While James Linehan, Commercial Director, added: “Every site tells a story. Whether it’s a team problem-solving an unexpected challenge or celebrating the completion of a milestone, you feel the pride and dedication that runs through the company. That’s what sets M&P apart.”

Niamh O’Rourke, Quality and Compliance Director commented on the awards nomination: “Being shortlisted for the ICIs on our first entry is incredible. It’s a moment to celebrate our team; the apprentices learning the trade, the office staff coordinating projects, the subcontractors on site who treat every building as if it were their own home.”

At M&P Mechanical, people are at the centre of everything. The company invests in training, apprenticeships, and career development, ensuring that the next generation of tradespeople is equipped to maintain the high standards the business is known for.

“Our people take ownership of their work,” says Mark. “You walk onto an M&P Mechanical site, and you see it; pride in every pipe, every system, every handover. That’s what builds trust with clients and sets us apart.”

Safety is non-negotiable. ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certifications, underpin the company’s rigorous quality and environmental management systems. But beyond compliance, safety and quality are lived values, evident in team briefings, meticulous planning, and mentoring apprentices on site.

M&P Mechanical’s portfolio reads like a blueprint of modern Irish housing and development. Projects such as Shanganagh Castle Estate in Shankhill, Claremont in Howth, Drumnigh Manor in Portmarnock, Seamount Rise in Malahide, Hearthfield in Dundalk and Hamilton Gardens in Cabra have transformed skylines and communities alike.

Shanganagh Castle Estate, the first project backed by the Land Development Agency, saw M&P deliver a district heating system across one of Ireland’s largest social and affordable housing schemes. Each of the 546 apartments is equipped with heat interface units and Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery (MVHR) systems, providing efficient heating, hot water, and superior indoor air quality.

Director TJ Collier explained more about the project: “It was a challenge and a privilege. We had to coordinate hundreds of units, integrate them with a centralised energy centre, and ensure every resident’s home was warm and comfortable from day one. Seeing families move in and knowing our work directly impacts their daily lives; that’s unforgettable.”

At Claremont, M&P handled a mixed-use development of 512 apartments, commercial units, and amenity spaces. The project demanded meticulous coordination; from CHP units, heat pumps, and gas boilers to MVHR systems, fire-rated ventilation, and full building management integration. Each system was installed with precision, reflecting the company’s dual commitment to innovation and reliability.

These projects illustrate more than technical skill; they reveal a human touch, the dedication of teams working through challenges, careful planning to ensure communities thrive, and pride in shaping environments that last.

M&P’s success is also built on strong relationships with Tier One contractors and developers. By acting as more than a subcontractor—as a collaborative partner—the company has earned repeat business and industry respect.

Over the years, M&P Mechanical has proudly partnered with a wide range of leading developers, contractors, and property managers, including Ballymore Homes, Cairn Homes, Cosgrave Developments, Delaney Estates, Glenveagh Homes, Golden Port, Greendoor Property Management, Hooke and McDonald, Hugh McGreevy and Sons, JLL, Kaizen Energy, Kilcawley Construction, New Key Lettings, OCCU, October Management, Shannon Homes Dublin, Urban Life, Savills, Walls Construction, and Wyse Property Management. Through these collaborations, we have been involved in the successful delivery of thousands of apartments complexes, residential units, and amenity areas, along with commercial and industrial services while also providing ongoing servicing, maintenance, and aftercare support to ensure long-term reliability and client satisfaction.

“Clients come to us because they know we’ll deliver solutions, not just installations,” explains James Linehan. “From sustainability advice to technical innovations, we approach every project as a partnership.”

Innovation is central to M&P’s mechanical ethos. The company invests in digital monitoring systems, energy-efficient technologies, and low-carbon mechanical solutions, ensuring that Ireland’s construction sector continues to evolve sustainably.

Being shortlisted for Subcontractor of the Year is more than an accolade, it is a recognition of M&P Mechanical’s journey, its people, and its impact on the industry.

“It’s a celebration of every tradesperson, every office team member, and every subcontractor who has contributed to our growth,” says Mark. “It’s also a nod to the ethos we’ve built, where teamwork, trust, and pride come before everything else.”

Looking ahead, M&P Mechanical is focused on sustainable growth, innovation, and continuing to nurture talent. With a strong leadership team, a skilled workforce, and ambitious projects across Ireland, the company is positioned to lead the sector in both scale and quality.

The Irish Construction Industry Awards ceremony will take place at Dublin’s Convention Centre on October 10th, 2025. For M&P Mechanical, the shortlisting is more than recognition of past achievements; it is a milestone in a remarkable story of vision, family, and teamwork, a story that continues to unfold, building homes, communities, and futures across Ireland.

“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished, but we’re even more excited about what’s ahead,” Mark says. “Every project, every team member, every home we touch is part of the next chapter in the M&P story.”
