Mulcahy Construction boasts a large and varied client-base in both the public and private sectors. The HSE, Department of Education, Department of Defence, OPW and Tipperary County Council are regular clients, while the company has many industrial, commercial and private residential clients on its books too.

The company has been the main contractor on several large-scale projects for the HSE in the South-East region in recent years. A number of examples of their work can be found at the South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. These examples include the hospital’s new three-storey Radiology Department which was a €3 million project consisting of phase 1 & 2.

Phase 1 works included the construction of the new three storey building, with the fitout of the CT room, nurses station, reception area and construction of the MRI room, on the ground floor. Works also included the construction of the first floor and completion of the second-floor plant room.

Mulcahy Construction was also successful in securing phase 2 of the project which consisted of the 11-bay fit-out on the first floor. The project was undertaken in the surroundings of a live hospital with a 10-week period to complete phase 2 works.

Mulcahy Construction Ltd have also completed this year, in conjunction with Boston Scientific, the children’s play area located next to the Paediatric Ward which is a vital resource for children and visitors who attend the unit.

Another successful project which was completed by Mulcahy Construction Ltd for the HSE at South Tipperary General Hospital, was the renovation of the former 100-bed (Dr Meehan Complex). This renovation provided the following services at the centre: occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology, speech and language therapy, community paediatrician, liaison nursing services and administrative support.

Last year, Mulcahy Construction completed the enabling works for various primary care centre’s located at Dungarvan Hospital & St. Otteran’s Hospital in Co. Waterford and Carrick-on-Suir Hospital in Co. Tipperary. One of the challenges faced at St Otteran’s Hospital was the electrical switchover from the existing plant room to the new plant room, while ensuring the hospital remained in full operation. Also, the demolition of the engine house building and associated buildings needed to be controlled to protect the listed 100-year-old chimney located directly in the centre of the buildings at St. Otterans Hospital.

Enabling works at Dungarvan Hospital included the relocation of the existing ambulance centre, the relocation of existing services and the construction of two new car parks, which required the removal of Japanese knotweed before work could begin.

“We are proud to have created a very good relationship with the HSE and hospitals in our area over the years. The HSE staff are a pleasure to work with at all times,” David explains.

In terms of work for the Department of Education, Mulcahy Construction has recently completed extensions to Lisronagh, Clerihan and Powerstown National Schools, and has re-roofed Presentation National School in Clonmel. The company has also constructed new two-storey Clonmel Childcare creche and single-story jigsaw nurseries in the town of Clonmel.

Mulcahy Construction have also completed various projects for the Tipperary County Council, some of these including the refurbishment of the Tipperary County Council chamber and public areas while the building was still in operation by the staff and to the public. The family-run business’ latest project for the council involves the relocation of the Tipperary Town library services to Tipperary Excel Arts Centre. This project will deliver a 21st century library with state-of-the-art facilities for the people of Tipp Town and its surrounding communities.

In the commercial / industrial sector, Mulcahy Construction has been the contractor of choice for Bulmers, who have undertaken a major expansion programme in the last few years, including the new bottling hall, tank farm and construction of the new brewery.

The company has also completed new car showrooms for Renault (three) and Nissan (one), waste water treatment plant upgrades in conjunction with Sorenson Engineering, in Co. Waterford. Their portfolio also includes the Right Price Tiles, KWS Welding Supplies and Hot Shots Bowling premises in Clonmel.

In addition, Mulcahy Construction has just finished Mikey Ryan’s Bar & Kitchen in Cashel to a very high standard. The project consisted of the restoration and refurbishment of a listed building, including the construction of a new extension to the rear, all of which was completed in under seven months.
