Brooks Timber and Building Supplies Ltd is one of the leading Timber and Builders Merchants in the Republic of Ireland. Building Ireland caught up with Cork branch manager Pat Walsh who spoke about their intention to enhance their already enviable reputation.
Brooks has been an institution in the Irish construction industry since its inception in the late 1700’s to today.
Their business is the distribution of timber products and building materials to house builders and contractors, joinery and furniture manufacturers, other builder merchants, subcontractors, house factories, and end-users (DIY) through outlets open to public, as well as through direct-to-site delivery.
Brooks product offering consists of six main product groups: timber & wood product, heavy building material, ironmongery & shop products, flooring, plumbing & heating and landscaping.
Brooks conducts its operations through a broad network of outlets throughout Ireland. They has seven branch locations throughout Ireland and Pat Walsh is the manager of their Cork branch which can be found at Pouladuff Industrial Estate, Togher.
“We’re located right on the South Link Road, on a three and a half acre site,” Pat revealed. “It’s a fantastic location with an ease of access which allows us to service the whole county as well as Kerry and Waterford and we offer next day delivery.”
Brooks boasts a long tradition of meeting the needs of its Rebel County customers.
“We have a long association with Cork having had a presence in the county since the 1880s.
“We’re very closely associated with being the main timber people in the region but we’re not just about timber.
“We supply a full range of heavy building materials and a wide and broad range of products across our different product groups. Our plan is to continue to be synonymous with timber while also proactive in making sure we’re not just associated with timber.”
When it comes to heavy building materials for instance, Brooks offer high quality building materials from Irish manufacturers such as Gypsum, Moy Isover, Wavin and Irish Cement and Tegral to complete your building project.
On the flooring end of things, they are a leading supplier of Europe’s number one flooring manufacturer Junckers. They also supply hardwood flooring, laminates and accessories to help you to complete the finished look in all your projects.
“While we are trade-based, our business is not solely just about trade. We encourage anybody to visit the site at any time.”
To that end, Brooks offers expert advice and a wide range of quality products to both the building professional and those doing DIY jobs at home.
Open Monday to Friday (7.30am to 5pm) and Saturday (8am to 1pm), the Cork branch is reporting a brisk business of late.
“Business has been very strong, we’ve seen an increase in business year on year from 2015 to 2016. New house building has definitely started against in earnest in our local area in conjunction with extension and refurbishment works.
“We also deal with some of the main contractors who work in the region, for example MMD Construction, JJ Rhatigan, Stewarts, L&M Keating to name but a few.”
The Brooks name is synonymous with high quality products and offering the highest standard of sales and after-sales is at the core of the business. The company values are Honesty, Ambition, Courage and Pride.
“We’re really associated with quality brands and products and we always place a strong focus on offering our customers a quality service.
“We have a dedicated workforce, with a strong product knowledge and advice is only a phone call away for our customers. On top of that we have a strong back-up from Head Office so our customers are guaranteed the very best of advice.
“We’re definitely spreading our wings all the time and would like to continue to improve and expand our product offerings and expertise in different areas. For example, this year we have recruited an underground expert and that’s a new focus this year.
“Looking ahead to the future, we would also hope to continue to grow our staff numbers to help us meet the increasing demand. We intend to continue to be the number one shop in Cork for quality timber – as well as everything else.”
If their track record is anything to go by, it would appear that would appear to be a safe bet and Pat concluded: “We’re definitely in a very strong position. We’ve been in a growth phase for the last two and a half years. 2016 definitely saw a pick up in that growth rate and we envisage that to continue in the new year.”
