Established in 2007, Assist Electrical Services Ltd provide high quality electrical contracting services across multiple sectors including Pharmaceutical, Food & Beverage Manufacturing, Data Centres and Sports Facilities.
Under the direction of Emmett Grogan and Barry Wall, the progressive Drogheda-based company has experienced steady growth since its inception and harbours ambitious plans for future expansion.
“Barry and I are friends over 15 years,” replied Emmett when asked by Building Ireland to trace the roots of the company. Both, having previously worked with separate companies, had aspired to one day run their own company. After a brief time abroad they decided to join forces and follow their dream. “Nothing ventured, nothing gained”
Despite having to navigate the uncertainty of an economic recession initially, Assist Electrical Services Ltd has continued to go from strength to strength.
“2017, and in the preceding couple of years, turned out to be a challenging time to set up a company in Ireland. We relied heavily on our reputation and on existing contacts within the industry. We established ourselves with architects, consultants and facility management companies.”
Today, Assist Electrical is Safe Electric registered and has 30 highly skilled employees on its payroll. In addition, it can call on the same number again in sub-contractors when the need arises.
“Five years ago we moved into a rented industrial unit , an opportunity came up three years ago to buy another premises in an industrial estate nearby , so we now have our own permanent base to operate out of now which is very beneficial ,” Emmett recalled. “That was important in terms of the growth of the company, getting our name out there and well known.
“It was also important from the point of view establishing ourselves in the Data Centre industry in particular. The first Data Centre project carried out was on behalf of Norland Managed Services. We developed an excellent working relationships with Norland who were acquired by the CBRE Group a short time later . Assist Electrical Services Ltd currently remain as a contractor for the CBRE group..”
The Date Centre Services (DCS) provided by Assist Electrical includes: “preferred supplier’ status with a multinational Asset Management provider; user-defined service level agreement; provision of large scale power installations; plant room operations/building service and maintenance systems; UPS installations; scheduled and reactive maintenance programming, works to critical areas; generator cabling, containment design and installation, white space fit-out and much more.
“The number and scope of jobs is increasing every year in Data Centres. We specialise in white space fit-out and data hub fit-out”

That goes a long way towards explaining why the CBRE Group honoured Assist Electrical with its ‘Supplier of the Year for M&E’ accolade two years in-a-row (2017 and ’18).
Meanwhile, the ever-burgeoning company commenced work on its first Data Centre project outside of Ireland in September of this year, in Amsterdam to be precise. It is an amazing opportunity for the Assist Electrical team and Emmett and Barry hope it’s the first of many more international projects.
“We’re very happy with how the company is progressing. We have built up an excellent reputation amongst our clients and have recently opened an office in London. 2019 sure has been a year to remember.”
Emmett added: “We are really excited about the opportunities that the new London office will bring up. The cloud of Brexit is hanging over everyone but again, from our point of view, we are approaching it as a case of nothing ventured, nothing gained.
“Further opportunities in Amsterdam is certainly a focus for the company. We are hungry for further growth.”
