Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (dlr) officially launched 67 new homes at Ballyogan Square. This new housing development includes two- and three-bed homes which are currently being allocated to persons on the dlr social housing waiting list.
Councillor Denis O’Callaghan, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council said: “I’m delighted to be present today at the official opening of a development that will provide much needed family homes for people on the social housing list. This phase of Ballyogan Square has delivered 67 homes, comprising two- and three-bedroom properties. All homes have been built to high environmental standards and provide comfortable accommodation with low running costs and the location of the homes provides excellent local connection to public transport.”
All homes have been built to high environmental standards and provide comfortable accommodation with low running costs. They are Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) compliant and are high energy performance with A1 BER ratings. All properties are triple glazed, and each has a private rear garden.
Frank Curran, Chief Executive, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council said: “This project represents the latest delivery of housing constructed by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. This project has been an important part of our delivery programme under our Housing Delivery Action Plan which allows for delivery of approximately 2000 homes during the lifetime of the plan. To date, in working with approved housing bodies and the Land Development Agency, we have delivered approximately 500 homes and are on track to deliver a further 200 by the end of 2023.”
The development has good local connections to public transport – both bus and LUAS and is located close to amenities and services at Leopardstown Shopping Centre, the Park Retail development at Carrickmines and the Samuel Beckett Civic Centre. A new library and swimming pool are also planned for the area.
Minister Daragh O’Brien who attended the official opening highlighted: “These homes at Ballyogan Square are one of many examples of state-of-the-art social housing projects coming to fruition across the Country. Robust partnerships with local authorities such as Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council are building on and exceeding last year’s highest annual delivery of social homes in decades.
“The delivery of social and affordable housing to meet housing needs continues to be a priority for my Department under Housing for All. With record levels of funding and investment, I’m confident that last year’s delivery will be exceeded and many more families will be opening doors to their new home. The use of Modern Methods of Construction to accelerate the delivery of these homes is welcomed by my department.”
In addition to this development there will be a further development of 52 homes at Ballyogan Rise and dlr currently have four other schemes under construction at Shanganagh Castle lands, Moyola Court, Churchtown, Coastguard Cottages Dún Laoghaire and Park House, Dún Laoghaire.
Under Housing for All, dlr are committed to delivering 1194 social homes for citizens within the County. To date we have delivered over 500 homes and are working towards delivery of a further 200 homes by the end of the year.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council would like to acknowledge the cooperation of local residents and schools and would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their patience whilst this project was being constructed.
