Most recently, OHMG received the 2015 CEF Overall Award and the Health & Education Infrastructure Award for its works at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB).
OHMG is recognised as an industry leader in innovation, sustainability, construction excellence and has recently delivered Northern Ireland’s largest BIM project to date. The firm undertakes new build, extensions and refurbishment projects as both a traditional contractor and a design & build contractor. Founded as a small family-owned business focused on house building in 1972, OHMG has come a long way since then and is now a nationwide company employing 200 staff. Part of the Carnbarne House Group, it has interests in general contracting, house building, civil engineering, shop fitting, private development and PPP.
Among its key personnel is the newly appointed managing director Martin Lennon MCIOB MICE who has succeeded Eamon O’Hare who remains on the board as a director. Eamon led the company’s growth since his appointment as a director in 1988, just two years after entering the family business.
Martin, Eamon’s deputy until his recent appointment, has been with the company since 1986. Other senior personnel are the commercial director Geoffrey Archer MRICS, MCIOB, finance director, Patrick Duffy MICA, and the procurement director Tom McVicker.
Since joining the company in 1987, Geoffrey Archer has helped deliver £215 million turnover of design and build projects within the last five years. With over 40 years’ experience in all aspects of quantity surveying, he is an expert in effectively managing all project costs from pitch to completion. His superb interpersonal skills enable him to motivate the team and drive the firm forward.
Patrick Duffy joined O’Hare & McGovern in 1989 as financial controller and was appointed to the Board of all Group Companies as finance director in 1992. He contributes to the achievement of the company’s objectives by providing advice and guidance on the financial strategy to the executive leadership team, ensuring it is on the best path financially.
Having originally joined OHMG as a buyer / estimator in 1982, Tom McVicker was appointed procurement director in 2000. Possessing an ability when selecting the best sub-contractor / supplier to meet the requirements in respect of their technical, financial, quality, health & safety, environmental, performance and programme abilities for all types of contracts, he has built up a professional and trustworthy supply chain which has successfully delivered clients’ requirements on behalf of the firm.
Over the past four-and-a-half decades, OHMG has delivered an array of UK-awarding winning sustainable projects to exemplar HSQE standards within budget and to programme in all sectors, including education, healthcare, commercial, hotels & leisure, residential, community, offices & industrial and custodial. It is currently involved in a dozen different multi-million pound projects. Undoubtedly the most high-profile of these is the £40 million design, construction and redevelopment of Windsor Park, the Irish Football Association’s national stadium in Belfast. The completed stadium will be able to accommodate 18,000 seated spectators.
OHMG is also carrying out new build and refurbishment of existing Boots retail stores across Ireland. Other current projects include: Design and construction of new Olympia Leisure Centre in Belfast; Design and construction of Boroughmuir High School in Edinburgh; Design, build and refurbishment of the existing John Bell House to provide student accommodation at College Park East in Belfast; Redevelopment of the existing Bernard Crossland Building at QUB to provide new computer science facilities; Design and build of new Dublin Road Student Accommodation; Construction of new multi-storey office block at the new Allstate NI Headquarters; Construction of new building for QUB Biological Services; Fast-track construction of North Foreshore Film Studios at Belfast Docks.
