Conor Kelly Building Contractor Ltd has grown significantly to increase its expertise and experience to its present capability spanning various construction disciplines. A management contractor employing many specialist
sub-contractors, the company’s belief has always been to deliver a high-quality service and build on-time and as
cost-effectively as possible. This desire for quality has seen the company employ a dedicated programme of re-investment in its people, systems and processes to ensure clients receive the most on-time and value-for-money solutions.
One of this Limerick based company’s most valuable assets is its experience. Established in 1995 by Conor Kelly, they worked on diverse projects, both small and large, from minor works to major works. As many of the projects run concurrently, Conor and his team place the right personnel with the right experience on the right jobs.
“Having successfully tendered for and completed numerous contracts down through the years, we have built up an excellent reputation within the industry, while acquiring a wealth of experience at the same time. We offer the most competitive prices and always ensure our customers are 100 per cent satisfied with every project we undertake,” said Conor.
Based in Clarina, Co Limerick, the firm is customer-driven at all times. It is with the client in mind – everything from what their requirements are to their agreed specifications and budget – that Conor Kelly Building commits to working together as a team with the client and design team.
“There are a good group of lads here. There are 19 employed direct and then we would use subbies as well. Most of the employees would be with us a good few years and they are experienced at what they do.
“The same can be said about the sub-contractors who know what we expect of them and they haven’t let us down. It is important to have that bit of experience behind you and know that you can leave a lad at a job and know that it will be done right.”
The company has moved from focusing on residential to including educational and commercial projects. This move to educational and commercial projects kept them busy throughout the downturn and still sees them busy today.
Conor and his staff kept going through the recession and he feels that they have learned a lot from that experience as they return to a busier time.
“We have emerged from the recession a stronger company. We have a large number of key team members that have been with us for many years and our overall team has bonded even tighter through the recession and the hunger and passion to succeed is present in all.”
At present, Limerick County Council is one of Conor’s biggest clients as they are carrying out a number of school projects for them.
“We are doing a number of thermal upgrades, which basically is improving the BER rating of the buildings. We would be upgrading windows, doors and attics. Another project that we are involved in for Limerick County Council is the development of four houses in St Mary’s Park Limerick. We are also working on the construction of a single storey Special Needs Unit to the front of the new Christ the King Boys National School in Caherdavin. In Garryspillane, we are working on a new showroom for a garage there.
Conor revealed that the workload has certainly increased, but added that the price of jobs certainly hasn’t reached anywhere near where it was during the Celtic Tiger era.
“There is work out there but you have to be very competitive when tendering and this makes it very difficult to make a profit. The prices need to increase, but I don’t know whether they will or not.”
The belief upheld within the company sees the importance of meeting the clients’ needs in an honest and professional manner, thus Conor Kelly Building Contractors Ltd has a consistent track record as a high quality builder and developer who delivers quality projects within budget and time schedules.
Through successfully completing many projects, this building firm has also built-up a good working relationship with numerous Architects, Engineers, Sub-Contractors and Suppliers.
Their professional approach, reliable service and competitive pricing are three key aspects as to why Conor is chosen first for some of the projects. That and the quick time frame in which they get the job done makes them first choice for the decision makers on these projects.
“There’s definitely a strict time frame with these projects and the idea is to get the project started as soon as possible and completed within the agreed time-frame whilst ensuring that the work completed is to very high standards,”
The company’s track record makes for good reading too, with hundreds of jobs being carried out to excellent standards down through the years.
Conor and his wife Sandra are directors of the company, while Sandra has the tedious task of looking after the administration side of the business. Together, they work well and Conor is hopefully that they can expand further in 2019.
“We will be looking to expand next year alright. Like I said, there is more out there, but there is a concern over the prices. It’s something that we have to deal with and move on. We have a good client base there now and we look forward to working with them in the future.”
