The awards keep coming for Frank Roche Air Conditioning Ltd (FR Services) in Mallow, Co. Cork. As the leading provider of heating and cooling solutions in Munster, the family-run business has won the Excellence in Business Construction Heating & Cooling Award for the past three years.
FR Services offers a complete service, including design, supply, installation and maintenance of air conditioning and heating systems. The company was established in June 1996 by Frank Roche who has over 45 years’ experience working in the air conditioning and ventilation industry. Frank was joined in the business in 2009 by his daughter Katie, who is involved in subsidiary company FRS Maintenance, which was set up in 2017 as a repair and maintenance specialist.
Frank’s daughter Molly works in the service department as an on-the-road engineer carrying out preventative maintenance for the company’s many clients. His son Fionn also spends every spare moment out of school working for the company with a view to learning the family business from the inside out. Fionn is looking forward to a future career within the business.
Frank’s brother Patsy, sons-in-law Gavin O’Keeffe and Michael Curtin, and nephew Sean Roche are also employed. The company continues to go from strength to strength and currently has 30 staff on its books, all of whom have the most up-to-date training in installation, service and maintenance as well as health & safety in the workplace.
FR Services handles diverse projects all the way through to design and installation, aftersales and ongoing maintenance services. Among the services provided are full HVAC installation and maintenance, plumbing services, fire sprinkler ISEN 12845 + BS9152, compressed air, LPHW, chilled water, dry risers, soil and waste. The Cork firm prides itself on its professional, reliable and cost-effective service as well as understanding the needs of its clients.
“We carry all necessary insurance from design to handover,” Frank says.
“These include professional indemnity, employer’s liability, public liability, product liability and contractor’s all-risk cover. We only employ fully-certified engineers as we are an FGR-accredited and EPA-approved company.

FR Services has dealer partner plus status with Daikin Ireland and has been a business solutions partner with Mitsubishi Electric since its inception. The company also works with many other premier brands, including Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Samsung, LG, Carrier, Panasonic, Toshiba and Sanyo.
“We have a large fleet of vehicles which travel on a daily basis across the country to deal with our clients’ requests. We offer a complete package from design, supply and installation for the industrial, domestic, commercial and public sectors.”
FR Services had a strong presence in the public sector and is currently working on services nationwide from the OPW and the HSE as well as a major installation at University of Limerick Hospital for a 60-bed section. This is just one of a number of hospital projects the company has worked on in the Munster region.
Heat recovery, ventilation and air purification are extremely busy areas for FR Services at the moment. In this Covid-19 age, proper heat ventilation has been key to getting staff back to the workplace along with air purification, air filtration and ionization systems that the company can also design, supply, install and maintain.
From cancellations and business interruption to employee health & safety, Frank’s clients are assessing the impact of the pandemic on their businesses.
“Our client relationship managers are reaching out to clients to reassure them of our continued operations and support, but please do not hesitate to call us with any questions or issues. We have been taking guidance from local health authorities and making determinations as to what is best for our colleagues’ and their families’ safety.
