Celebrating 20 years in business, Padraig Folan Civil Engineering Ltd in Lettermullen, Co. Galway continues to go from strength to strength by delivering a wide range of civil engineering services throughout the West.
The Connemara company’s success has been built on forging close and lasting relationships with clients throughout Connacht which include local authorities, semi-state bodies, utility companies and private clients as well as various consulting engineers, quantity surveyors and consultants. They know that whatever the scale or scope of the project, Padraig Folan Civil Engineering can provide a professional, reliable and value-for-money service.
The business was established in 2003 by Padraig Folan, who had previously worked alongside his late father and mentor Pat Folan. Padraig has retained many of the same clients that Pat worked with and added several more in the meantime. These include Galway City Council, Galway County Council, HSE, Department of Education & Skills, Merit Medical Systems, O’Malley Construction, MJK Homes and Burkeway Homes, for whom he is providing the complete civils package on a large scale residential development in Rahoon, Galway.
Padraig Folan Civil Engineering boasts a wealth of experience in the civil and construction sectors along with a dedicated workforce of highly-skilled operatives. The company has earned an enviable reputation for top-quality work delivered on time and within budget through its highly-quality management, technical and administrative teams who work closely with each individual client to ensure successful and efficient delivery of projects.
Projects undertaken by Padraig Folan Civil Engineering range from water mains, ducting, sewerage and drainage works, walls, footpaths and kerbing, car parks and excavations and light demolition works to haulage, grab and plant hire, site preparation, all-weather sports pitches, and building and maintenance works.
The Galway company is fully committed to maintaining a safe working environment for all employees and personnel involved in each project. Its Health & Safety policies are fully implemented and updated on a regular basis and the company obtained Safe-T-Cert™ in 2021. Investment in ongoing training and upskilling programmes is a priority for the organisation. This is borne out of the fact that the company has an exemplary safety record going back to its inception.
“We’re delighted to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We wouldn’t have gotten this far without the support of clients our dedicated workforce,” Padraig says.
Along with valuing its clients, Padraig Folan Civil Engineering is grateful for the dedication, loyalty and expertise of its 20-strong team and the repeat sub-contractors they use on a regular basis. Working positively to achieve their targets, the Folan workforce take full responsibility for their actions and always produce outstanding results. It is for this reason that the company continually invests in training for its people.
“We pride ourselves on our top-quality work and staff. It goes without saying that our people are our greatest asset. We’d be nothing without them. We employ experienced drivers and skilled operatives along with a contracts manager and accounts manager. It’s a real team effort,” the affable managing director adds.
Padraig Folan Civil Engineering has an array of plant and equipment to cater for any civil groundworks, civil or demolition project, including excavators, dump trucks, tipper trucks, low loaders, rollers, and compaction equipment.
“We have diggers ranging from 1 tonne to 35 tonnes and hydraulic attachments to suit all. We also specialise in truck hire, grab hire and low loader haulage.”
The Galway concern takes great pride in all the projects it carries out, regardless of size. Recent projects include site clearance, demolition and foul drainage for new townhouses in Salthill for MJK Homes, site works and landscaping for a 100-space car park at the Merit Medical Systems facility in Galway and works for new residential units in Rahoon for Burkeway Homes as already mentioned. The scope of works for the latter project includes muck shifting, site preparation, foul and storm drainage, water mains, utilities, footpaths, roadways, fencing and paving.
“No job is too big or too small,” Padraig stresses.
“We noted early during the pandemic that due to travel restrictions, families were likely to invest in their gardens and exterior areas, so we pivoted into providing residential tarmacking and hard landscaping services. We regularly construct footpaths and walls, and execute drainage projects for Galway County Council throughout the region. We’re very flexible in what we can do. Our main public infrastructure services are foul and storm drainage, utilities, water mains, kerbing, paving, footpaths, roadway construction and car parks.
“We try our best to do things right. We always go the extra mile and that leads to us getting plenty of repeat business and referrals. It’s very rare that we don’t get repeat business. A lot of that is down to the very close personal relationships we have built up with our clients over the years. We don’t take any of that for granted.”
As his company continues to lead the way in proficient project delivery, Padraig would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients, sub-contractors and suppliers for their continued support as well as his staff for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
