Passionate about painting

14 Aug , 2024

Having celebrated a decade in business in 2023, 13 Painting Contractors Ltd is looking forward to what the next 10 years brings as it continues to go from strength to strength.

Based in Perrystown, Dublin 12, 13 Painting Contractors has earned an enviable reputation for delivering professional commercial painting across the capital and beyond. The award-winning company is an expert in specialist finishes, hygiene coatings, Epoxy coatings, decorative finishes, spray painting, wallpapering and restoration. It also specialises in bespoke projects and offers a seven-day a week service, night or day, so as not to disrupt the clients’ business.

13 Painting Contractors is fronted by David Flanagan, who is a fourth-generation painter. He employs 18 people directly and many more on a subcontract basis. Previously trading as David Flanagan Ltd, the company’s current name was inspired by former Leinster and Ireland rugby captain Brian O’Driscoll.

“I remember sitting in traffic in Dublin one day and saw an image of Brian O’Driscoll’s number 13 jersey on the side of a bus passing by. That was back in 2013 and he had just announced his retirement from rugby. So you thank Brian for the ‘13’ in our name!” David smiles.

“I come from a family of painters, having started off working in my father’s business, Brian Flanagan Painting, before deciding to go out on my own. We have a lot of great clients in the commercial, hotel, hospitality, retail, industrial and residential sectors. We’d be nothing without them or our wonderful foremen and staff.

“We have eight foremen who oversee a top-class team of painters and decorators. They, in turn, are supported by the same tried and tested subcontractors. We have over 50 people on our books when subcontractors are included.”

The affable managing director continues: “I set up the business because I wanted to pursue a different route. The last 10 years have flown by, during which we have been lucky enough to work with some of the best designers and architects in the country.

“We see ourselves as a market leader in bespoke design finishes. Our superior craftsmanship and application of our services helps us to produce some of the highest standards in the industry today.”

13 Painting Contractors boasts a wide and varied client-base that includes Google, T&I Fitouts, Cosgrave Developments, Moston Construction, Vision Contracting, Tolmac Construction, Tricon Building Services, DAA, JK Building, HSE, Trinity College Dublin, Weir & Sons, Pure Fitout, Young’s Estate Agents, Mannings, Pobal, Kaneco, Fexco and FX Buckley Steakhouses.

“Our mission is to promote and retain long-lasting relationships with our clients and employees. We enjoy an excellent working relationship with our clients who use our services time and again. It’s one of the reasons why we are turning out so many high-class developments, hotels and commercial projects,” David says.

A large multinational’s new campus in Ballsbridge and The Westbury Hotel are two of 13 Painting Contractors’ most high-profile contracts to date.

“We were the main painting and decorators on both jobs,” David explains.

“We completed the large multinational project in late 2022 and more recently, The Westbury Hotel where we worked on the bedroom suites and corridors on the 6th floor, and on the presidential suites. We collaborated with T&I Fitouts on this prestigious, high-end project which won a 2023 Fitout of the Year Award.

“The Westbury owners were very happy with our work, so much so that they have invited us back to work on the 4th floor.”

Among 13 Painting Contractors’ other current / recent hotel and bar projects are The Sally Gap Restaurant & Bar in Powerscourt Estate, Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow, The Fitzwilliam Hotel in St Stephen’s Green, The K-67 Pub in The Carnegie Hotel in Swords, The Lord Lucan Bar in Lucan and JR Mahon’s in Burgh Quay, Dublin 2.

Recent residential developments include Annabasky Glen in Enniskerry and Thormanby Hill in Howth as well as Elm Park Green in Mount Merrion for Vision Contracting. The Diageo offices in Dublin 8, Google offices in Grand Canal Dock and Pinterest offices in North Wall Quay also feature on the contractor’s portfolio of recently-completed works.

“We never let a client down. They know they can rely on us, especially with office fitouts where it’s essential that they move in on time. While our work is mainly concentrated in Dublin and Leinster, we’ve also worked in Cork and Galway. We’re very busy and long may that continue to be the case.”

13 Painting Contractors is a member of the National Guild of Craftsmen, is fully compliant with the CWPS Pension Fund and has full Public and Employers Liability Insurance. David would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as his expert team for their hard work and dedication.
