Paul Doherty Construction celebrates 10 years of excellence

16 Feb , 2026

Celebrating 10 years in business in 2026, Paul Doherty Construction Ltd is an award-winning building contractor specialising in new one-off builds, extensions, renovations, pyrite remediations and groundworks.

Based in Ramelton, Co. Donegal, the company was established in January 2016 by Paul Doherty who is supported in the business by his wife Eilish, sons Oisin, Odhran and 28 direct employees, who are supported and supplemented by the same tried and trusted subcontractors. Paul Doherty Construction has earned an enviable reputation for high-quality construction and was recently named Building Contractor of the Year at the Highland Radio Customer Service Awards 2025 which took place in the Mount Errigal Hotel in Letterkenny.

The Awards recognise companies that go above and beyond in providing exceptional service to their customers, and that inspire others to do the same, and Paul Doherty Construction has never been found wanting in this regard.

“It’s nice recognition which reflects well on our amazing team who are always willing to go the extra mile for our customers. We’re very lucky to have a good crew and wouldn’t be where we are today without them,” Paul says.

A carpenter by trade who boasts a wealth of experience in construction, Paul is also grateful for the support he receives from his wife Eilish, who assists the office team (Lorraine Kerr in accounts, Tommy Dempsey and Ethan Cullen Quantity Surveyors) and his 21-year-old son Odhran, who is a second-year apprentice carpenter. “We pride ourselves on being a family-run business. We have built strong, personal relationships with our customers over the last decade which leads to lots of repeat business.

“We also enjoy an excellent relationship with our suppliers, subcontractors and design teams.

“Our main suppliers are Chadwicks in Letterkenny, Watson Hire in Letterkenny, Diver’s Hardware in Milford, Coyle’s Hardware in Fanad and Letterkenny Concrete, while our subbies include Shaun McCollum Electrical Services, Michael Quigley Plumbing & Heating Services, Efficient Renewables, Sweeney Scaffolding and Domhnall McAlaney PVC Products.

“Some of the engineers / architects we deal with are HD Mc Kay Consulting Engineers, CornerStone Associates and Cullinane Steele Architects.”

Superior workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of the business, with Health & Safety also being paramount. From concept to completion, Paul and his team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs.

Paul Doherty Construction’s one-stop shop approach ensures that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Co. Donegal contractor’s ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from scores of satisfied clients.

By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with design teams and using only the very best building products from local suppliers, this fully-qualified and insured contractor is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients.

“We mostly specialise in residential projects, but we’ve also done commercial jobs for Global Rail and AirNav, which used to be known as the Irish Aviation Authority. In addition, we’ve carried out extension works to Drumhalla House, which is one of Ireland’s most scenic, alternative wedding venues in Rathmullan, and to The Meadow Childcare creche in Milford.”

Business is booming for Paul Doherty Construction which is currently building seventeen new homes in the north Donegal region, including one in Creeslough for Donegal All-Ireland winning footballer and manager Jim McGuinness.

“A large part of our work relates to homes affected by pyrite around Donegal. We’re busy demolishing and rebuilding homes for clients who have been compensated under the Mica Redress Scheme. We can also replace the outer leaf on houses affected by mica.

“While it’s heartbreaking for homeowners to see their properties demolished, they can take solace from the fact that they are being replaced with a better-quality and more energy-efficient home than the one they built 20 years ago.

“As a main contractor, we take care of everything. Building your own home is probably the biggest investment you will ever make and we’re here to make the whole process as seamless as possible.”

As his business continues to go from strength to strength, Paul would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients, suppliers and design teams for their support as well as his staff and subcontractors for their hard work, dedication and expertise.

Here’s to the next 10 years!
