Perfect conditioning from Brian Scully Services

We paid a visit to their Newcastle West Head Office and met with Managing Director Kevin Scully to find out more about this outstanding family business, which has been at the forefront of the Air Conditioning market in Ireland for 30 years.

Established in 1987, Brian Scully Services is an Irish-owned and operated company specialising in the supply, installation, repair and maintenance of Air Conditioning & Ventilation Systems. From design through to support, they provide high quality, cost effective solutions that are tailored to the client’s individual needs. Brian Scully Services are proud to have been accredited with ISO 9001 Quality Standard Certification since 1998 and have won countless Awards from Mitsubishi Electric, all of which are on display in the reception area of their Newcastle West office.

For three decades, they have been installing systems throughout the 32 counties and have also completed projects as far afield as Spain, Germany, Holland, England & Northern Ireland.

As a main dealer for Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning Systems, Brian Scully Services are confident in the exceptional quality and wide range of products offered and also the availability of spare parts, which is of paramount importance to both themselves and their clients.

Brian Scully Services has the distinction of becoming Ireland’s first approved Business Solutions Partner for Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning. Based upon an agreed set of documented standards for installation, commissioning and maintenance, this programme is focussed on delivering the highest possible standards in workmanship, thereby assuring the customer of a professional level of service and support.

They also carry the distinction of Diamond Partner of Mitsubishi Electric Ireland, which allows them to provide a 7-year warranty with all installations, while most other suppliers can only offer 3 or 5 years warranty. “Being a Diamond Partner is testament to the high standard of completion in all of our installation projects” notes Managing Director Kevin Scully, who joined his father – eponymous founder, Brian – in the family business 19 years ago.

With additional offices in Dublin and Cork, Brian Scully Services can provide rapid country wide coverage. Active across financial, pharmaceutical, commercial retail and leisure sectors, their professional, highly skilled Service Engineers provide 24/7 /365 service. “We have a team of 20 men on the road backed up by 7 office based colleagues. We have a vehicle management system in operation, which allows us to monitor the location of our entire fleet at any given time. This offers the advantage of quickly establishing which of our engineers is closest to respond to a call at any given time.”

Being environmentally conscious, Brian Scully Services have implemented paperless systems. Kevin confirms that “All Engineers are equipped with a Smart Phone and using specialised software, work scheduling and all relevant information is despatched to the Engineers who can also complete and return all reports to various departments within the organisation. This system has proved to be very beneficial to and convenient for our customers as all reporting can be forwarded in real time if requested.”

“Needless to say, safety is a big concern and something we take extremely serious” continues Kevin, “Vehicle Walk Around Checks are conducted every morning and again, being as environmentally friendly as possible, this checklist is carried out through an app and paperless records are maintained. All Engineers hold Safe Pass cards, and in addition to Abrasive Wheels, MEWP, Manual Handling and Confined Spaces courses, they are F-Gas Certified and have completed Asbestos Awareness Courses

“The staff play a huge part in the success of the company, many of whom have been with us for over 20 years. For example our Sales Manager Toby Quaid joined the company as an apprentice 22 years ago. His vast experience in the product provides him with an advantage of product knowledge second to none.”

All projects, regardless of size, are approached with the same degree of professionalism and care and Brian Scully Services are as dedicated to individual split systems in retail or domestic environments as they are to large multi-VRF projects consisting of several hundred units. Their engineers are experienced in working in live environments where minimal disruption to clients’ business is guaranteed.

“We provide heating, cooling and ventilation solutions which are affordable and energy efficient. Practicality is one of the biggest advantages. End users can opt for a system that suits their individual requirements. For example, we have installed systems in numerous hotels, including Castlemartyr Hotel & Lyrath Estate Hotel whereby, in a bedroom application, a remote control can be as simple as On/Off, Temperature Up/Down. On the other hand, a more complex ‘21st Century’ option is available which enables the client to control the system remotely through an app and is complete with on-line tutorials.”

Naturally, due to the collapse of the construction sector during the demise of the Celtic Tiger, retrofits are very popular at present. Air Conditioning is an affordable and convenient method of providing heating and cooling in a building. As efficiency is paramount in any business now, coupled with value for money that can be attained by having quality Air Conditioning Units installed, it is fast becoming the preferred option. “As the economy has started to grow”, Kevin confirms “the scale of new build projects being tendered for is quite high and we are experiencing growth as a result of this.”

Brian Scully Services have been involved in several New Build and Retrofit Lidl Stores and Bank of Ireland Branches Nationwide. Some other recently completed projects include recognisable brands such as Harry Corry, Permanent TSB, Topaz, Gamestop, Cork Airport, to name but a few.

“Service and Maintenance currently accounts for approximately 25% of the business. To this end we have dedicated service and maintenance engineers in addition to our installation engineers. In so far as possible we strive to schedule the same engineer to a customer as we believe our engineers are the face representing the company and building a strong relationship with the client is of utmost importance to us. We pride ourselves in maintaining long standing relationships with organisations such as OPW, Irish Cement, Fexco, Mary Immaculate College and many, many more. We can’t express our gratitude and appreciation for their continued support down through the years. Looking to the future Kevin says that forming, building and maintaining good relationships with customers will remain key.
