Celebrating 30 years in business, Precision Construction Ltd (PCL) is one of Ireland’s leading building, shopfitting and restoration companies. Based in Santry, Dublin 9, the award-winning firm has undertaken a variety of contracts in almost every county since its inception in 1995.
Fronted by father-and-son Patrick and Killian O’Sullivan, PCL has earned an enviable reputation for quality across a wide range of sectors, including retail, education, healthcare, financial, Government bodies, commercial and specialist manufacturing industries. As experts in design and build contracts, PCL has a proven track record in delivering exceptional projects on budget and programme. The family-run business also holds client milestones in budget, programme, size and project complexity.
PCL employs a top-class, professional team of 50 people who are supported and supplemented by the same tried and trusted subcontractors and suppliers, including Walls Steel, Quinn Roofing, Lynch Windows, Solido Flooring, Stanley Asphalt, Kilsaran and Roadstone. The company has particular expertise in building and fitting out shopping centres for the likes of Tesco, Arnotts and Penneys, and is also engaged in public sector works for the OPW, Department of Health, Department of Education & Skills, Iarnód Éireann and Dublin City Council to name but a few.
“We are a multi-disciplined construction company that provides a complete service from start to finish,” Killian proudly states.
“We have a wealth of experience in shopfitting, especially for Tesco who we see more as a partner than a client. We’re also on the OPW, Dublin City Council and Irish Rail frameworks and recently completed the Inchicore Wagon Shop & Associates Works for Irish Rail in Inchicore. The aim of the project was to modernise the facility for Iarnód Éireann’s new fleet of electric trains. The enhancements have significantly increased the efficiency and capacity of the facility.
“We also recently completed remedial and refurbishment works to the NPRO building and offices as well as listed building refurbishment and associated works at St James’ Hospitals 1, 2 and 4. Other recent projects we have worked on include Avison Young / GVA Planning & Regeneration offices in St Stephen’s Green, Celbridge Community School, Cabra Secondary School, Naas Secondary School, Bray Civic Centre, Dundalk Shopping Centre, Manor Mills Post Primary School in Maynooth, Tesco in Ballina, Crescent Shopping Centre in Dooradoyle, Carton Park Shopping Centre in Maynooth, Dunnes Stores, Pavilions in Swords and Tesco Liffey Valley Shopping Centre.”
With three decades of experience working in live sites and trading environments, PCL is at the forefront of client refurbishments and upgrades. Its team provides unrivalled quality and safety while maintaining a zero-disruption policy.
The relationship between PCL and Tesco is particularly strong. Over the years, PCL has successfully completed many new and upgrade projects for the retail giant. Currently, PCL is building a brand new Tesco in Fermoy, Co. Cork that will include car parking and cycle parking facilities, F&F Clothing as well as a dedicated Tesco Mobile phone shop.
“It’s Tesco’s first new large store build in a while and we’re delighted to be the main contractor on it,” Killian explains.
“Our largest Tesco project to date was Liffey Valley, which we built from scratch a few years ago. At the moment, we’re very busy with Tesco Express Store fit outs all over the country. We’re very adept at them. We can turn around a new store in five weeks, while revamps can take even less. We work around the clock to get the work done quickly and efficiently, and also leave behind a snag-free project which means there is no need to go back after it’s completed.”
Among the Tesco Express Stores PCL has recently carried out works to are: Two Oaks, Rathfarnham; Counting House, Cork; Ferrybank Waterford; Townsend Street, Dublin; Newmarket Yards, Dublin; Kilkenny; Grand Canal Harbour, Dublin; and Collins’ Avenue, Dublin.
With the implementation of its Lean Building Ethos, PCL has developed the core values steering wheel. This is a tracking document which sets measurable and achievable development targets across its building and fitout processes. The targets are set at director level and are designed to challenge each department through innovation.
Each month, the tracking document enables the family-run firm to test and improve its building processes and review the results in order to capture and identify both positive and negative trends, and adopt lessons learned. Where applicable, PCL will set and apply these targets to the fitting out and refurbishment works in cooperation with the client’s own project targets.
It goes without saying that PCL’s greatest asset is its people. “Our growth and success is all down to them,” the affable company director emphasises.
“We have people in accounts, contracts and on site who have been part of our team for most of our journey. Carmel O’Flynn and Noel Corrigan have been with us for almost 30 years. We would like to commend them and our other long-serving staff members for all their hard work and the incredible loyalty they have shown us over the years. We have retained the same core group of people from our early days which is something that reflects favourably on us.”
Unsurprisingly, PCL can count ‘Great Place to Work’ and ‘Excellence Through People’ Awards among its list of accolades / achievements. The contractor is also a past winner of the Sustainable Energy Innovation Award and the Association of Consulting Engineers Innovation Award. Furthermore, PCL is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building, Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland and the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.
As PCL continues to go from strength to strength, the company would like to take this opportunity to thank its clients and suppliers for their unwavering support as well as its dedicated team for their hard work, loyalty and expertise.
