Kerr Building Services is a building contractor that offers its clients a complete building and maintenance service. Building Ireland heard all about the Co Clare- based business recently from its Managing Director, Andrew Kerr.
Kerr Building Services (KBS) is enjoying its busiest period to date. The plan for Andrew Kerr & Co in Clonlara, Co Clare is to keep things that way right into 2021.
Established in 2014, KBS provides clients with a complete building and maintenance service, this includes new builds, renovations, and extensions.
Andrew and Jennifer Kerr are the company’s directors and have together grown the business to the success it is today.
Fast-forward six years and KBS now holds a glowing reputation for providing clients all throughout the mid- west with the highest quality workmanship.
Building Ireland caught up with founder Andrew Kerr to learn more about the business and the projects that it’s presently immersed in.
“We specialise in bespoke builds, extensions, renovations and provide maintenance,” he outlined. “Right now we employ six full time staff and we’ve never been busier since coming back to work from the lockdown.”
Indeed business had been booming at KBS up until the government lockdown was enforced on March 11th as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Now it seems the company has picked up right where it left off, having returned to work on May 18th and not looked back since.
“We’re very busy at the moment,” Andrew enthused. “I wouldn’t say that the lockdown had an effect. In fact, it didn’t hurt us at all thankfully.
“We’re currently undertaking one of our most complex and demanding projects. A three storey 70’s detached split level residents which included carefully excavating under existing house to create an addition living area.
“With a couple new builds to be handed over in the coming weeks, we also will be starting new projects in the third and fourth quarter of the year.
“This has been our busiest year to date. Due to past experiences working on high end projects I have developed a keen eye for detail. KBS is renowned for its attention to detail.”
When Andrew started his business back in 2014 he’d have gladly taken such a packed schedule, having set-up shop after returning home from a couple years working in Australia.
“I returned home from Australia in 2014 and just decided then to start up the business,” he said. “During my time in Australia I project managed High-end Hotel and shop fit outs.
“It was great experience to get and when I came home then I knew I’d be able to start up my own company.
“Thankfully, we’re still here six years on and as busy as we’ve ever been.”
As a building contractor, KBS employs a team of fully trained and qualified tradesmen and can facilitate a wide range of works both big and small, including new builds, extensions, refurbishments, renovations and alterations.
The company’s focus has always been reliability and high quality workmanship. Liaising closely with the client on a daily basis enables Andrew and his team to deliver a contract on time, within budget and always to a very high specification.

“I’m carpenter by trade so we try and train up apprentice carpenters here as well,” said Andrew. “The team we have here is made up of fully trained and qualified tradesmen so that we can carry out the job to a high standard and current regulations.”
The next few months are looking like busy ones for KBS, so the burning question is what has been the secret to success over these past six years?
“The company is constantly evolving, and this is due to the dedication of myself and the team we have,” Andrew put it plainly.
As for the months ahead, the company’s Managing Director will be looking forward to expanding the company and moving into new premises in 2020. KBS is happy to keep up the good work and grow their staff numbers by a couple more before the end of the year.
“Over the past number of years, I have developed a rapport with leading architects and engineers in limerick, I feel this is invaluable to complete a successful project.”
