20 Oct , 2025

Established in July 2014, John Gray Ltd offers an extensive range of turnkey construction services to domestic and commercial clients in the South-East. The fast-growing company guarantees outstanding workmanship, innovation, complete customer satisfaction and value-for-money.

Based in Blackwater, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford and covering counties Wexford, Wicklow, Carlow, Kilkenny and Waterford, John Gray Ltd specialises in new builds, extensions, refurbishments, alterations and groundworks.  It aims to provide a professional service to customers without compromising on quality and only uses only the very best building materials. The contractor’s reputation for quality construction is borne out by the high volume of repeat business it receives from scores of satisfied customers.

“We work with our clients in every aspect of the project and will always go the extra mile for them,” says John Gray Ltd quantity surveyor Douglas Taylor.

“We pride ourselves on our reputation for quality projects, our innovative and hands-on approach along with a proven ability to complete jobs on time and within budget. Our goal is to not only meet but to exceed our customers’ expectations, and to deliver projects in an efficient and safe manner.”

A registered CIRI (Construction Industry Register Ireland) contractor since 2017, now known as VCR (Voluntary Construction Register), and a member of CIF (Construction Industry Federation) since 2016, the company was set up by John Gray and now employs 10 people directly as well as many more on a subcontract basis, including Pat Corrigan Plumbing, Gavin Potter Electrical and Audsley Roofing. The company’s annual turnover has grown significantly in the last decade.

“It’s a real team effort here. We employ a team of highly-skilled and creative people who are passionate about what they do. We have our own carpentry, groundworks and minor demolition personnel and sub out the rest of the work to reliable and trusted roofing contractors, plumbers, block-layers, electricians, plasterers and other essential trades.”

John Gray Ltd also enjoys an excellent relationship with its suppliers and design teams. Its main suppliers are TJ O’Mahony (C&D Providers), Casey Concrete, Delaney Concrete, Kent Engineering, C&C Builders Providers, Munster Joinery, Gorey Tile Store, Keating Insulation and Tool Depot. Architects include Nicholas Mernagh Architects & Chartered Building Surveyors, Justin Whitty Architectural Design, Zeno Winkins, Mahon Fox Architects, Peter Blewett, BCF Architects, Alan Byrne Design Architectural Services and Padraig Smith Partnership.

John Gray Ltd is currently working on several different building projects across the South-East, including a number of new house builds, rebuilds and extensions. Most projects are typically valued at €350,000-€500,000. The company has earned an enviable reputation for building beautiful bespoke one-off homes that are energy efficient, high-performing, comfortable and tastefully designed. In addition, it offers a full turnkey solution by taking care of the entire project from groundworks right through to the final stages of construction.

“Most of our work is located within an hour’s drive of our office and consists of new residential and commercial builds, refurbishments and school extensions. We also work for local authorities on social housing projects, but it’s mainly private projects we’re engaged with at the minute. The private work is being driven by word of mouth, recommendations and referrals from architects,” Douglas outlines.

In a new departure, John Gray Ltd is developing its own scheme of new homes in Blackwater. An Goirtín Glas is a beautiful residential development of 12 detached energy efficient homes that have been thoughtfully designed, making it the perfect place to call home. The scheme comprises a selection of three- and four-bedroom spacious ‘A’ rated detached bungalow and dormer homes. They feature air-to-water heating systems and triple glazed windows, while some have stonework features.

An Goirtín Glas is conveniently located just a short stroll from Blackwater which was named Ireland’s Best Kept Village in 2023 and offers bars, a café, a supermarket, the local primary school and the GAA pitch, and only a short drive to all of the wonderful amenities that the thriving town of Wexford has to offer. Ballyconnigar Beach is just 2km away, offering a beautiful sandy beach with stunning walks.

John Gray Ltd has also recently constructed a new two-storey office building in Gorey for Altura Credit Union and new one-off homes in Rosslare and Kilmuckridge as well as refurbishment and update works to houses in Wexford Town and Blackwater respectively.

“Our current projects include a house extension in Blackwater, a new build in Rosslare, a fitout in Blackwater, a house extension in Rosslare, a large school extension in Ballindaggan near Bunclody, a school alteration in Glenmore and a bird-hide in the Wexford ‘Sloblands’ for the Wexford Wildfowl Reserve. We’re extremely busy,” Douglas explains.

“We’ve just completed two set rooms for Blackwater National School, a new toilet block and minor alterations to Youthreach New Ross for WWETB (Waterford and Wexford Education & Training Board) and school hall fire upgrade works in Thomastown.

“We’ve also recently finished house upgrades and extensions in Wexford Town and Gorey.”

Furthermore, the Wexford contractor has completed extensions to national schools in Gusserane, Ballyhack, Horeswood, Rosslare, Graiguenamanagh, Castlebridge, Ballygarrett, Ballycanew, Kilnamanagh and Raheen to name but a few. Health & Safety has always been a priority for the John Gray Ltd team who follow all the relevant guidelines and take all the necessary precautions at all times.

Looking to the future, Douglas concludes by saying: “We hope to become Safe-T-Cert accredited early next year and ISO 9001-certified later in the year. We are trying to future-proof ourselves and are always striving for improvement.”

John Gray Ltd would like to take this opportunity to thank its customers and suppliers for their continued support, and its staff and sub-contractors for their skill, hard work and dedication.
