We spoke to joint manager Stephen McAneney who told us that they are the first port of call for local builders.

“The Rice family purchased the business in 1980 and continued trading under the RB Coogan name,” explained Stephen McAneney who is a joint manager of the business along with Mark Rice, a cousin of Managing Director, Dominic Rice.
It’s said that a hardware shop was based on their previous site on the Main Street in Castleblayney since the 1800’s but in 2006, moving with the times, they relocated to a new purpose built premises in the nearby Lakeview Business Park which is conveniently located on the outskirts of the town.
Their new premises allowed them to expand their product range to cater for a broader range of needs for their customers. Under the one roof, they now provide every product you could possibly need to build your house from the first foundations right through to choosing which colour of paint to put on your walls.
“From insulation to timber to cement, basically everything a builder needs we have it here on site,” added Stephen. “The business is split between the building and retail sectors and we carry a large range of products on site.
“90% of our business in the building trade is made up of local builders or outside contractors working in the area. Some of our customers have stayed loyal to us since the turn of the century and before that. Some have been with us for generations and we are very grateful to them for their continued support.”

“We’ve 13 to 14 different departments here under the one roof. We’ve 20 plus bathroom displays for example as well as an indoor and outdoor garden centre.
