The winners of the 2019 Irish Building and Design Awards were announced on Friday, November 29 last at a black tie awards ceremony held in the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road Dublin.
Professionals from the world of Architecture, Engineering, Construction and Design attended the biggest annual awards ceremony in the industry to acknowledge the best in Ireland’s Building & Design projects over the last 18 months.
Managing Director Eugene Finn and the Capcon Engineering team were out in full force as they were shortlisted in the ‘Specialist Contractor of the Year’ category.
The wide range of services the Maynooth, Co Kildare-based operation provides their valued clients includes Rainwater Drainage, Siphonic Rainwater, Drainage, Design & BIM, Supply & Install, Prefabrication and Maintenance.
Although they didn’t get their hands on the prize on the night, the nomination underlines the progress that has been made since Eugene and Robert set up the ever-burgeoning company nine years ago.
“Receiving the nomination was prestigious recognition for the company and it meant a lot to us,” Eugene Finn remarked to Building Ireland. “It was a reflection of our hard work over the years and developing skill sets of the highly qualified team that we have put together. It was very proud and very satisfying from the company’s point of view.”
Capcon Engineering were joined at the Clayton Hotel by their colleagues in sister company, Capcon Building, which received a nomination for ‘Private Housing Project of the Year’ for the Cluain Dara Housing Estate in Derrinturn, Co Kildare.
“Robert and the team at Capcon Building were also delighted to be nominated. We had started work on Cluain Dara Housing Estate before the construction industry went through its difficult period, but we took up where they left off and finished the development to a higher standard than was envisaged under the original 2006 planning permission.”
Capcon Engineering began operations in 2011. At first they delivered a diverse range of services including pipe rehabilitation, leak detection, asset management, minor civils and rainwater drainage, working on projects across the UK, Europe and the Middle East.
In early 2016, following a full review of the company’s strategic outlook, they undertook a complete restructure and made the decision to focus entirely on the design, supply and installation of engineered drainage solutions.

“Over the years we have evolved from being an experienced supply and install contractor to incorporating an expert design service. We are now frequently consulting with the Design Team at the planning, and often pre-planning stage of larger scale projects.”

In recent times, we have been so busy with our workload in Ireland that we haven’t been actively pursuing work abroad but that is due to change in 2020. We are planning expansion in the UK, in particular, as there is a huge demand there for the services we provide at the moment,” Eugene concluded.
