Celebrating 15 years in business, Raymond Galligan Construction Contractors Ltd (RGCC Ltd) in Rathcorrick, Co. Cavan has earned an enviable reputation for building beautiful bespoke homes using the Amvic ICF and KORE insulated foundation systems.
Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) is an increasingly popular method of building construction using lightweight and hollow insulation forms that fit together and are then filled with concrete. Once set, the concrete becomes a high-strength structure and the formwork remains in place as thermal insulation.
A building constructed using the Amvic ICF system will achieve far higher thermal, sound and fire performance standards than traditional construction methods such as block or timber frame, and at a much lower cost for comparable performance than any other building system available today. A house built with Amvic ICF will easily meet the building regulation’s requirements for air-tightness, junction thermal bridging minimisation and U-Value needed for an A3-rated home as standard.
The Amvic ICF system can be used to construct any kind of building, including residential developments, self-build homes and extensions, basement and earth-sheltered development, commercial units and industrial buildings.
RGCC Ltd is also an approved installer of the KORE insulated foundation system which virtually eliminates thermal bridging by wrapping the entire foundation in a continuous layer of EPS. The system, which is Ireland’s first certified insulated foundation system, works much like a traditional raft foundation. The EPS element is specifically designed and cut to suit the building type for insulation. The foundation’s exceptional comprehensive strength makes the product suitable for both domestic and commercial applications.
“We are fortunate to always have a continuous flow of work, despite being set up in the middle of a recession,” RGCC Ltd founder and managing director Raymond Galligan says.
“We traded as Raymond Galligan Carpentry & Construction before changing our name to Raymond Galligan Construction Contractors Ltd two years ago. The initials are still the same!
“We initially specialised in renovations before getting into new builds 10 years ago. We don’t do renovations anymore – it’s all new builds and extensions now. About six years ago, we were struggling to get block-layers and that led us to going down the ICF route. We did a course in ICF and it just snowballed from there. It gives us greater control over our jobs and allows us to do everything from the ground up.
“We’re also achieving A1 energy ratings with many of our Amvic ICF builds.”
He continues: “We’ve always dealt with Amvic for ICF systems and KORE for insulated raft systems. They two go hand-in-hand. KORE are only down the road from us in Kilnaleck and Amvic recently opened a new state-of-the-art plant in Longford which is close to us as well. Both companies are great to deal with which makes our lives a lot easier, while also ensuring a quicker turnaround on projects.”
Raymond, who is joined in the business by his wife Denise, heads up a six-strong team of highly-skilled and experienced carpenters who are supported and supplemented by the same tried and tested subcontractors, including Fiachra Brady Electrical, Energy Renewables, John Slowey Plastering and JJR Insulations.
“We try to keep as much as we can in-house. We’re almost self-sufficient at this stage,” he explains.
“Unlike many other ICF builders, we provide all aspects of construction from site clearance to turnkey finish. We have our own plant to carry out the groundworks and can give our customers whatever finish they want. They don’t have to worry about anything. We’re a one-stop shop who can look after everything.”
Superior workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money, safety and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of RGCC. From concept to completion, Raymond and his team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs, and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved.
RGCC Ltd’s one-stop shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Co. Cavan contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from scores of satisfied clients.
By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with design teams and using only the very best building products, this fully insured contractor is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients.
RGCC Ltd collaborates with WGG Architects & Surveyors Ltd in Kinnypottle, Cavan, Michael Fitzpatrick Architects in Butlersbridge, Co. Business is booming for the Galligan team who can have up to 15 live projects at any one time. Private one-off new builds are getting bigger and bigger, typically ranging from 3,500 sq. ft. to 6,000 sq. ft. in size. RGCC’s biggest project at the moment is Slí Na Coille, a development of 17 three-bed semi-detached A2 energy-rated homes in Belturbet, Co. Cavan for L&M McCabe Developments Ltd.
As RGCC Ltd continues to go from strength to strength, Raymond would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients and suppliers for their unwavering support as well as his staff, subcontractors and design teams for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
Here’s to the next 15 years!
