13 Jun , 2024

Solid, reliable and experienced, Rhino Roofing & Cladding is a leading roofing and cladding installation specialist based in Ballylongford, Co. Kerry which continues to go from strength to strength.

Established in September 2017 by directors Paudie Collins and Pat Ahern, the company has grown to employ 35 people directly, a further 60-70 on a subcontract basis, and has an annual turnover of approximately €20 million. It operates nationwide and recently won its first data centre in Europe with main contractor TSL. Rhino Roofing & Cladding collaborates with a host of main contractors on large-scale projects, including John Sisk & Son, PJ Hegarty & Sons, Vision Contracting, John Paul Construction and the UK-based, Irish-owned TSL as well as modular homes company Castle Modular.

The Co. Kerry firm has forged a particularly strong relationship with Sisk and was delighted to be shortlisted for a John Sisk & Son Supply Chain Partner of the Year Award in 2023. One of the social highlights of the year, the John Sisk & Son Supply Chain Awards recognise excellence among Sisk’s supply chain partners across Ireland and Europe, and show appreciation for all the great work done together.

Sisk spends over €1 billion annually across its supply chain of almost 8,000 companies. Over 70 sub-contractors and suppliers were shortlisted for awards, having been nominated by each of Sisk’s business units and procurement respectively. Each business unit then selected its ‘Best Supply Chain Partner of the Year’ from the proposed shortlist following a thorough evaluation process.

“We had a great night at the awards ceremony in The Convention Centre in Dublin last November,” Paudie remembers.

“We were thrilled to be on the shortlist. Our first big job with Sisk was Center Parcs in Longford. Since then, we have worked on several more projects with them. The work we do with Sisk accounts for about 70% of our overall turnover. But we value all of our clients. We’d be nothing without them or our approved suppliers. I also want to say that the backbone of our company is our employees and over the years we have formed a brilliant team who bring the highest level of workmanship to every job.

“We pride ourselves on our workmanship, quality and exemplary Health & Safety record. We mightn’t be the cheapest, but we won’t be beaten on quality.”

Some of Rhino Roofing & Cladding’s current / recent collaborations with Sisk include University Hospital Limerick (UHL) and Bons Secours Hospital Limerick, Bonham Quay residential development in Galway and J&J Visioncare Ireland (formerly Vistakon Ireland) manufacturing facility in Limerick. Other current / recent roofing and cladding projects include Vantage Business Park in Dublin for Newpark Real Estate, American Fruits & Flavors Ireland in Athy for TSL, SLX which is a new residential development in Stillorgan for John Paul Construction and over 200 no one storey modular units for Castle Modular in Gort.

“The relationships we build with our clients are important in allowing us to create lasting bonds,” Paudie says.

“Not just because of the value-added roofing and cladding services we provide, but also with the calibre of our performance and the quality of our work. And when that trust is earned, we never take it for granted.

“We always look for ways to go that extra mile and this ethos filters down from senior management through every layer of our organisation. We constantly strive for excellence and take great pride in exceeding our clients’ expectations.”

“I qualified in Quantity Surveying in 1997 and Pat Ahern hired me for the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre project in Dublin,” Paudie explains.

After that, Paudie went on to work on numerous prestigious schemes throughout the country. It helped him to develop a network of main contractors and to work his way up to the role of Contracts Manager with SIAC. Some of the more memorable Dublin projects include Wyeth Medica (now Pfizers), Interxion, Microsoft and DCU.

Major assignments in Cork also appear on Paudie’s CV such as Mahon Point Shopping Centre, Pfizers, Novartis, Smithkline Beecham and Centocor to name but a few.
