Roccul – Create, Construct, Complete

22 Jan , 2024

One of Ireland’s leading fit-out and construction management specialists, Roccul Ltd was thrilled to be a finalist in the 2023 Irish Construction Industry Awards which were held in The Mansion House, Dublin in November.

Shortlisted in the highly-competitive Contractor of the Year – SME category, Roccul has earned an outstanding reputation as a commercial fit-out, design & build, and construction management contractor since its inception in 2010. The Dublin-based company has grown to employ a 26-strong team of professionals who are supported by tried and tested subcontractors, suppliers and designers. It caters to all business sectors, including offices, retro fit-outs, industrial, design & build, food and beverage as well as retail and leisure.

Launched in 2014, the Irish Construction Industry Awards recognise, encourage and celebrate original and innovative contractors, businesses, teams, consultants and projects that demonstrate excellence in the built environment. Previously a finalist in the 2020 Fit Out Awards for its successful delivery of a high-end Cat B fit-out for Pepsico, Roccul is delighted with this latest nomination which reflects very favourably on its team and procedures.

“We were delighted to be shortlisted for such a prestigious award,” enthuses John McCormack, who fronts Roccul along with fellow-directors Tommy O’Reilly and Sean Cullinan.

“When you look at the calibre of the other nominees (CField Construction, Duggan Brothers, Kelbuild and Writech), it’s fantastic to be in that sort of company. They’re all much bigger than us which would suggest that we’re punching above our weight.

“It’s all down to the team, the subcontractors and suppliers who support us when a job is live. We’re only as good as them. We have an exceptional team and enjoy an excellent relationship with our subcontractors, suppliers, design teams and clients. We’re very proud of the fact that we’re well-known and well-liked within the industry. You’d go a long way to find anyone who has a bad word to say about us.

“It’s all about showing respect and keeping a cool head under pressure.”

John continues: “Our aim is to develop a quality contractor that’s easy to deal with. While our turnover jumped from €7 million to €16 million last year, quality over quantity remains our mantra. There are no egos in Roccul. When we go into a live environment, the etiquette and teamwork is always there. We have great project managers, site team and office staff. We’re in a great place with a great client base.

“Furthermore, we have an impeccable Health & Safety record. We want to have a name that doesn’t get muddied. Our reputation means everything to us.”

That teamwork extends to the management who complement each other with their different skill sets. “Tommy oversees the business development side of things, Sean supports this while monitoring the finances and I’m operations manager,” John explains.

“Sean initially set up the business as Virtus Interiors before rebranding to Roccul in 2017. The name is an amalgam of Cullinan and Roche, which is his wife Michelle’s family name. We have a strong brand, and eye-catching blue and white logo, which was developed by Tommy.”

Roccul has earned a stellar name for quality workmanship, outstanding customer service, exceptional attention to detail as well as an ability to complete all projects on time and within budget. As one of Ireland’s leading fit-out construction companies, it aims to set new standards in the high-quality refurbishment and fit-out of commercial projects.

Based in Smithfield Village, the contractor has successfully worked with numerous international and indigenous Irish companies. As an experienced fit-out contractor, Roccul manages every stage of your project in an efficient and timely manner. From the initial site set-up to the final brush stroke, it takes care of your interior project by working ‘with’ as well as ‘for’ you to ensure the best possible outcome.

Roccul works with a wide range of approved subcontractors to assure you of a quality team on site for every job. The company is dynamic and innovative in its approach, working with clients to create a holistic identity that begins with the interior, and extends to the fabric and location of a building. Roccul crafts offices that uniquely work for the locality and staff. Its experience in delivering premium corporate office fit-out projects offers clients confidence based on proven delivery and innovative approaches to each project’s unique set of challenges.

Roccul holds ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015 and 45001:2018 accreditation, further proving its commitment to continually improving its services and helping to establish itself as one of Ireland’s foremost fit-out companies.

When it comes to Health & Safety, the contractor continually seeks to go above and beyond to ensure that its employees, partners and clients are safe on site. This means embedding safety as a key part of its culture and living it every day. From the outset, Roccul takes a positive approach to owning safety on site and across all projects. In its experience, this is the best way to ensure that all those involved in the project are engaged in its Health & Safety systems.

Each month, a Roccul employee receives a Health & Safety award for their outstanding safety efforts. By guiding its teams with safety initiatives and positive reinforcement communications, the company works to develop an empowered, accountable and inclusive safety culture.

Sustainability is also a key consideration for Roccul which recognises its responsibility to our planet. It explores all opportunities for environmental innovations with the goal of standardising these practices across the company. Roccul is also fully committed to implementing an ESG strategy in its own practices.

“While fit-outs are our speciality, we also have construction expertise in roofing and façade works,” continues John, whose background is in construction.

“We have completed projects for a wide and varied client-base. We’ve recently completed fit-out and structural works for Paul Sheeran Jewellers in Chatham Street which consists of nine different boutiques. We’ve also done a 900 sq. m. roofing project in Mount Anville, a fit-out project for the National Toll Roads in Sandyford and a Cat A fit-out for a repeat Irish client in the UK. We’re always busy.”

As Roccul continues to go from strength to strength, the fit-out specialist would like to take this opportunity to thank its clients and suppliers for their support as well as its staff, subcontractors and design teams for their hard work, dedication and skill.
