When it comes to training within the construction industry there is only one company that offers a complete range of services and that is Dublin based Salus Training Services.
Established in 2005 by Tom Browne Snr, the company offers a massive range of services through training and safety courses. From manual handling to QQI level 6 courses, Salus are the go to place for all types of training.
“I would have actually been involved in the area of health and safety since 1988 and in 2005 we started Salus Training Services and began to offer wider range of services,” said Tom.
“Aside from the training and safety courses we provide, we also provide traffic management and consultancy. We are Solas accredited. We also provide a wide variety of health and safety training courses in a number of diverse sectors, all our programmes are of high quality standard and at affordable prices. We provide training for local authorities, other organisations, and members of the public. We deliver effective training solutions to companies and their staff and we also offer off site training nationwide with a flexible and practical approach.”
Salus Training Services have a long standing relationship with many of their clients as they have trained hundreds of thousands of people over the years.
When asked why their clients kept turning to them for training, Tom revealed that there were a number of reasons for this.
“Our trainers would all be trained to the highest standard possible in their fields of expertise, which is something that we focus on. Our client doesn’t want one of their employees returning to their role still unsure of what they have to do. So we pride ourselves on ensuring that all personnel pass through our stringent training.
“We also place a great investment in the business. We know the need to continue to keep up our standards and if that means investing more in the business then that is what we will do. Recently, we have installed a functional ten-metre railway track to help with training on railway lines. If the requirement for something is there then we will pursue that.
“We are always looking into different areas and ways we can expand the business and our next step may well be into the pharmaceutical industry where we have developed ground probing radar which is a level beyond the standard training.”
The company offers safety consultancy services and they have a number of experienced H&S consultants from a wide range of industries and working environments.
These people can carry out this auditing service to ensure compliance with legislation and industries best practice is adhered to. While on site they can provide this service as a one-off inspection or on a continual basis . A safety report will be complied after the visit and sent to the client which can be included or form the basis of Management plan.
Tom’s son Tommy also plays a leading role in the business and he revealed that their traffic management services are highly sought throughout the country.
“The aim of our Traffic Management Service is to provide a safe quality Temporary Traffic Management service at a competitive price. All aspects of traffic management will be implemented in accordance with Chapter 8 (Traffic Signs manual & any future revisions), which we helped devise”
Tommy added: “ A site survey will be carried out at ever location where temporary traffic management is needed. After the site survey a site specific Traffic Management plan will be prepared for each stage of the work and will be subject to a post design review prior to commencement of work. The designers of such plans will take in to account the requirements as set out in the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, and the Construction Regulations 2013.
Salus Training Services employ 16 and their team of trainers as previously stated are trained to the highest standard possible and Tommy stressed that they play a huge part in the success of the company.
“We have a consistent panel of trainers who are highly experienced in their areas of expertise. We have a massive success rate in our training and safety courses and thankfully we have developed a reputation for being the best at what we do. It is now up to us to ensure that we continue to deliver that level of consistency.”
More recently, Salus Training Services have become and IPAF Satellite Centre for One Up Access UK. The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) promotes the safe and effective use of powered access equipment worldwide in the widest sense – through providing technical advice and information; through influencing and interpreting legislation and standards; and through safety initiatives and training programmes.
IPAF is a not-for-profit organisation owned by its members, which include manufacturers, rental companies, distributors, contractors and users. IPAF members operate a majority of the MEWP rental fleet worldwide and manufacture about 85% of platforms on the market.
