Skellig Engineering Ltd is a leading mechanical services contractor with expertise in heating, ventilation and air-conditioning installations. Based in Kill, Co. Kildare, the company has gone from strength to strength since its establishment in 2000.
Working primarily in the Irish construction industry, Skellig Engineering Ltd is vastly experienced in the installation of all aspects of mechanical building services, from heating and plumbing, HVAC and BMS control systems to natural gas and renewable energy installations. Skellig Engineering Ltd specialises in medium / large-sized contracts to achieve a high standard installation carried through from initial design to completion, within the given budget and agreed works programme. Since receiving its ISO 9001: 2008 certification, the company has undertaken many residential, commercial and government projects and has extensive experience in undertaking installation works within already occupied and fully functional buildings.
“One of our key strengths is our ability to work in live environments. We are especially adept at working in live hospital, school and pharmaceutical environments. We carry out a lot refurbishment and maintenance contracts, and work in both the public and private sectors,” explains contracts manager Darragh Cox.
Skellig Engineering Ltd specialises in the installation of the following services: water services (LPHW, HCWS, waste, grey and chilled water services); natural gas installation (RGII certified); renewable energy systems (SEII certified, Kingspan solar certification); HVAC systems; BMS control systems; fire protections systems; mechanical systems supervision and maintenance; manufacture and installation of pre-fabricated plantrooms.
The company also provides a highly-skilled site back-up service, including: site supervision and project management; project planning and programme scheduling; on-site mechanical engineers; AutoCAD design facilities; testing and commissioning services; health & safety consultant.
Employing 35 staff directly, the firm is headed up by husband-and-wife Colum and Therese Murphy along with Gerard Flannery, who became a director in 2008. It takes its name from Ballinskelligs in Co. Kerry, which is where Colum’s family hail from. By specialising in projects in the education, healthcare, hospitality, government, pharmaceutical, residential and pre-fabricated plantrooms sectors, Skellig Engineering Ltd reaches out to a wide range of clients. The company’s location on the outskirts of Dublin and beside the M7 means its within easy reach of the capital where most of its work is concentrated.
Among the educational projects it has successfully completed include: Greendale Community School; Gaelscoil, Coolock; St. Joseph’s School, Fairview; Mary Help of Christians School, Navan Road; Loreto School, Kilkenny; Pope John Paul National School, Malahide; Marist National School, Crumlin; North Bay Educate Together School, Donaghmede; Scoil Padraig, Clane, Co. Kildare; St. George’s School, Balbriggan; NUI Maynooth; UCD Campus accommodation.
Last year, Skellig Engineering Ltd completed a major project at the Kilmainham Gaol Museum Visitor Centre for the Office of Public Works (OPW) to mark the 1916 Easter Rising celebrations. Following on from that, the Kill-based contractor is currently carrying out renovation works at the adjacent Kilmainham Courthouse. PJ Hegarty & Sons was / is the main contractor on both of these projects.
Skellig Engineering Ltd is also currently working for the OPW in conjunction with Duggan Brothers on the construction of a new Garda divisional headquarters in Wexford town. It will feature a complex of buildings with a combined area of 4,000 square metres on a 2.8-hectare site. The new facility will also include a large HGV garage which will support Gardai at Rosslare Harbour as well as a state-of-the-art evidence storage unit.
The mechanical engineering contractor has carried out numerous projects at Temple Street Children’s Hospital down the years, with the latest being the upgrade of the Outpatients Department (OPD) in conjunction with McAleer & Teague. The same company was also the main contractor for the new Dublin City Mortuary and The Office of the State Pathologist on the site of the former Whitehall Garda Station, which was another project Skellig Engineering Ltd was proud to be associated with.
In addition, Skellig is currently working alongside Tracey Brothers on a new swimming pool development for Clongowes Wood College in Co. Kildare. Among the clients who the company has worked for and with since its inception are the Grand Hotel in Malahide, the Marine Hotel in Sutton, VDP and T5 Consultancy.
