These are exciting times for Sligo GAA. The Yeats County’s minor and senior footballers showed progress by qualifying for their respective Connacht finals while, off the field, the county’s Centre of Excellence is beginning to take shape.
Due to be completed by late Autumn, the Sligo GAA Centre of Excellence is located on a 23 acre site at Scarden on Strandhill Road and the ambitious project is an integral part of Sligo GAA’s development plan, which aims to promote Gaelic Games throughout the county.
Back in May, the contract for the final phase of the project was signed between the County Board and Arken Construction who are responsible for constructing a building to house dressing rooms, meeting rooms, referee room, gym and other necessary facilities.
Sligo officials decided to place their trust in the locally based Arken Construction because they are an experienced and forward looking company with an open and responsive approach to project proposals and invitations to tender.
Company director James Armstrong believes in always applying the highest standards of safety, quality and sustainability.
They have a broad portfolio of successfully completed projects across a range of sectors including Residential, Restoration, Refurbishment and Public works. The company’s past work includes the likes of Ursuline College, Strandhill NS and Cloonacool Community Centre to name but a few.
Arken Construction has built its reputation on their client focus and hands-on approach.
“We are proud of the fact that the majority of our workload comes from repeat business and word of mouth and that we have a strong reputation for our competitive edge and reliable execution of all projects undertaken,” commented James’ sister Michelle Bell who takes care of the company’s administration and payroll functions.
The foundations of this family-run business have been standing firmly for nearly 50 years and in that time the Armstrong family has established a reputation for hard work and commitment to quality.
Arken Construction was established by James who has been involved in the construction industry as a private operator for 15 years. He learnt the ropes from his father Michael who ran a successful construction business for years.
Under the direction of James, Arken Construction continues to invest in modern business practices and management techniques in order to ensure that they remain at the cutting edge of their industry.

Here’s what Liam P. Curley of Abbott Diabetes Care Donegal had to say about his dealing with Arken Construction: “Arken were a pleasure to work with on our extension, conscientious and extremely dependable they delivered on time, budget and the final build quality is excellent.
“James provided his personal expertise and knowledge to any issues that arose with courteous and good manners. Thank you to all in his team and we would not hesitate to contract any further projects to his careful management.”
