Over the past 15 years, County Meath based BOC Build has consistently delivered a stunning portfolio of residential new builds, large scale extension / renovations and commercial fit out projects that invariably exceed customer expectations. Building Ireland interrupted hands-on founder / proprietor Brendan O’Connell’s busy schedule to find out more about this industry-leading building contractor.
Covering the well-appointed County Meath and North Dublin catchment area, BOC Build is synonymous with construction craftsmanship of the very highest standards.
For a decade and a half, Brendan O’Connell has been delivering a striking succession of truly breath-taking high-end residential and commercial projects for an ever-growing base of satisfied customers under the BOC Build banner – which has become a byword for excellence.
The secret to BOC Build’s success is not based on rocket science: a carpenter by trade, with an eye for detail, Brendan is a firm believer in striking up and maintaining strong, mutually-trusting relationships with his clients. Through a combination of outstanding workmanship, exceptional service levels and strong communication throughout a project’s programme, BOC has firmly established itself as one of the premier homebuilders in the Greater Dublin area and beyond.
“We are a turnkey main contractor who provide the full package,” he states. “We specialise in a nice mix of high-end new builds, large-scale extension / renovations, commercial fit outs and civils projects.”
BOC Build pride themselves on attention to detail and complete customer satisfaction while ensuring all work is delivered on time and to the highest industry standards. At the heart of the business is a vastly skilled and experienced team of in-house tradesmen and subcontractors who make sure to leave an aesthetically pleasing, high-performing end product behind every time, be it the large-scale extension / renovation of an existing home or a magnificent high-end multi million euro, A-rated new build in Castleknock – a regular port of call for BOC Build.
BOC Build have completed a variety of new build homes over the past number of years, Be it a traditional masonry build, a metal frame or a timber frame home, they have a wealth of experience and expertise in all types of construction.
They also boast vast experience in commercial fit out works, from offices to shops and hair salons. and have worked with names such as Spar, Londis, Mace, Jack & Jones , Gleesons and Ischia to mention just a few, offering a full service from design stage through to final fit out and compliance sign off.
Furthermore, BOC Build has years of experience in small-scale civil works, such as mass concrete basements, site clearance, piling, raft foundations and reinforced concrete formwork.
With such a stellar reputation and the capacity to tackle such a wide array of project types, BOC Build is in big demand at present, with plenty of work ahead of Brendan and his team. “We take it as it comes and we’re happy to discuss and price any job,” the Meath contractor continues. “A lot of work comes through previous clients . Word of mouth is very important and thankfully we do very well in that regard.
“I like to meet the client and get a feel for them, because relationships are a big thing in this line of work. Once you sit down with somebody, you’ll get a feel for whether you can work with them or not. I would be very big into getting a good read from somebody.”
BOC Build generates direct employment for an in-house team of nine, including carpenters, grounds workers and experienced general operatives . On top of that, reputable tried and trusted subcontractors complete the extended crew, all of whom are aligned closely with the BOC ethos of unerring delivery.
“I’ve a great close-knit team that have worked with me from the very start,” says Brendan. “They are like family. In fact, one of the plumbing contractors is my brother and another is one of my best friends. Our electrical contractor is also a close friend. After that, it’s all dependable and solid guys that I’ve built up a very good rapport with over the years.
“It really is like a small family and I don’t chop and change. I’m happy with the subbies I have and it’s all about maintaining our reputation. I have a good relationship with all of these guys and you have the peace of mind of knowing that they work to the highest levels and also that when you need them they will be there for you.”
Not surprisingly considering the quality of the projects consistently delivered, BOC Build benefits from a steady volume of new work through repeat business and positive referrals from satisfied customers: “There’s one customer I did a large extension / renovation for eight years ago and he’s just come back and handed us plans for a new 6,000 sq ft house. Another one of the houses we built in Castleknock recently was for his best friend, so it’s amazing how it works when you look after your clients.
“We go out of our way to look after all of our clients. We’ve gone back to clients with small issues up to three or four years after handing over the keys. Reputation is everything – the company name is based on my initials and you aren’t going to let that go.”
With a fleet of vans, a jeep and a lorry on the road, as well as all their own construction plant (diggers, dumpers, teleporters, etc.), BOC Build has the manpower, machinery, experience, enthusiasm and building expertise to continue to go from strength to strength:
“We don’t plan on expanding,” Brendan concludes, looking to the future. “It seems like everyone wants to get bigger and bigger, but we are happy at the size we are at. Quality of work is my main priority and there’ll be no compromise on that. The plan going forward is to continue working with good clients and to continue providing a high level of work.”
