12 May , 2021

Established in 2003, McKelan Construction Ltd has earned a reputation for quality, innovation and excellence within the construction industry. The Co. Wexford-based company offers a diverse portfolio of construction and building work in the residential, commercial, industrial, education and leisure sectors.

Based in Bree near Enniscorthy, McKelan Construction has a wealth of experience in the building trade. Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of the business which has successfully completed a wide range of projects down through the years. Health & Safety is at the core of the business, and never more so than in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

The contractor’s reputation for quality construction and proven ability to complete projects on time and within budget is borne out by the amount of repeat business and referrals it receives from satisfied clients throughout the Leinster region. With a strong emphasis on teamwork and through a partnership approach with its clients, McKelan Construction always delivers a quality end-product.

“We are committed to helping our clients achieve competitive advantage through a flexible approach to design, construction and fitout,” says managing director Sean McKelvie.

McKelan Construction is a progressive and innovative company which employs 20 staff directly and a further 120 on a sub-contract basis. By employing highly-skilled tradespeople, working closely with leading architects and engineers, and using the very best building products and methods, it is able to deliver the highest quality construction.

The company provides a complete building service, from conception to completion. Its expertise spans the construction industry, from renovations and extensions to new one-off dwellings, housing developments and industrial units. While most of its work is concentrated in Dublin, McKelan Construction will, in Sean’s words, “go wherever the work is”, pointing out that the company has worked all over Leinster.

McKelan Construction has extensive experience in residential and commercial building projects. Past projects in the residential sector include Acorn Lodge, Churchtown, Dublin 14; Clearwater Cove, Rosslare Strand, Co. Wexford; Dalriada, Claremont Road, Carrickmines, Dublin 18; Granitefield Mews, Dun Laoghaire, Co, Dublin; The Mullaun, Westbrook Road, Dundrum; Gracefield Villa, Waltam Terrace, Blackrock, Co. On the leisure side, McKelan Construction’s CV includes a large extension to The BrookLodge Hotel and Macreddin Village, Aughrim, Co. Wicklow as well as Kingswood Country House Hotel on the Old Naas Road, Kingswood, Co. Dublin. In addition, the contractor has been involved in a number of school and hospital projects.

Some of McKelan Construction’s most recently completed contracts have included Westpark Apartments, Saggart / City West; Mabbot Lane, Dublin 1; St Joseph’s National School, Arklow, Co. Wicklow; Eden Road, Glenageary; Rooms & Blooms Hardware, Enniscorthy; Cedar Lodge, Merrion Road, Ballsbridge.

Currently, the company is carrying out new builds in Annacreevy, Glenageary, Blackwater, Co. Wexford and Bunclody, Co. Wexford. The Blackwater project is a sizeable one, consisting of 16 social houses. McKelan Construction will shortly commence a new development comprising nine apartments in Kilmacud, Dublin 14.

The Co. Wexford firm has come a long way since it was co-founded by Sean and the late John Whelan 17 years ago (hence the name Kelan). It came through the recession earlier this decade with flying colours and continues to go from strength to strength under the guidance of Sean and fellow directors Stephanie Wickham and Tom O’Sullivan.

“We secured a lot of work in the educational sector during the downturn and that sustained us until things started to pick up in the other sectors again. What also stood to us was the excellent working relationship we enjoyed and continue to enjoy with many architect offices. There are always challenges in this business which you have to meet head on, with COVID-19 being the latest,” Sean explains.

Looking ahead to 2021, Sean says the company’s goal is to remain on an upward trajectory.

“We still see ourselves as a young and vibrant company. We’re always striving for improvement and pride ourselves on the quality of our finish and price competitiveness. We’re hoping that next year will be a successful one for us.”

McKelan Construction would like to take this opportunity to thank its suppliers, clients, engineers and architects for their continued support, and its staff and sub-contractors for their dedication, hard work and expertise. Whatever your requirements, this exceptional builder will provide a cost-effective and high-quality building to suit you and your budget.
