L Redmond (Electrical) Ltd in Eastwall, Dublin 3 is one of Ireland’s leading commercial electrical contractors, boasting a track record that is second to none.
The family-run and award-winning business is the commercial electrical contractor of choice to a wide and varied customer-base in the greater Dublin area. Among its valued clients are the HSE, OPW, Department of Defence, UCD and TCD. The company’s aim is to provide the highest standards in electrical installation and maintenance without compromising on quality.
Although it was established by Liam and Ann Redmond way back in 1969, L Redmond (Electrical) is very much a modern and progressive operation, which has moved with the times to invariably deliver the most efficient, cost-effective and up-to-date electrical installation and maintenance solutions. With Liam and Ann now taking a back seat, the contracting firm continues to go from strength to strength under the direction of their son Brian, who has 30 years’ experience in the industry.
Brian qualified as an electrician in 1999 and subsequently completed a Degree in Electrical Building Services Engineering, followed by an Honours Degree in Electrical Services and Energy Management, with an emphasis on engineering in sustainable electrical energy systems. Brian also holds an IOSH certified qualification to act as Project Supervisor Construction Stage (PSCS) on construction projects L Redmond (Electrical) take the lead on.
As an electrical contractor and engineer, he combines the practical element of electrical installations with efficient energy solutions for clients at the most basic level, providing value-for-money, sustainable systems that can be utilised in commercial and industrial premises, reducing electrical consumption costs for clients through better design and product selection with the knock-on effect of reduced energy costs and carbon emissions.
The managing director is joined by over 40 direct employees, including contracts manager Dan Egan, and administrators Eamonn Crowe and Martina Cassidy, who are supported and supplemented by a network of tried and trusted specialist subcontractors. L Redmond (Electrical) is a fully insured, Safe Electric-registered contractor employing a high-calibre team of project managers, engineers, estimators and qualified electricians who complete every job in a safe, professional, friendly and timely manner. Furthermore, the contractor is vastly experienced when it comes to working safely and discreetly in live environments.
“Our people are our greatest asset,” Brian stresses.
“They have the experience and expertise to not only meet, but exceed our clients’ expectations. The same can be said of our specialist subcontractors who we enjoy an excellent working relationship with. It’s a real team effort.
“We keep the business at a manageable size and avoid overreaching or overextending ourselves, which allows us to look after our clients and to give complete attention to detail from start to finish on every project, irrespective of their size.
“We have a proven track record working across all sectors of industry – including hundreds of healthcare projects, sports and leisure, food, medical, schools, commercial and industrial – and embrace new challenges as we continue to take on more-varied project types.”
The Redmond team recently completed one of their most high-profile projects to date for the OPW at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham. Collaborating with 7L Architects, Cundall Engineering and main contractor Merrion Contracting, the scope of works included the installation of fire alarms, emergency lighting and an extensive fire damper system in The North Range, and took over a year to complete. The project also included the meticulous restoration of the Baroque Chapel ceiling, historic timber panelling and stained glass.
Another large project was undertaken at the Manresa Jesuit Centre of Spirituality in Clontarf where internal and external lighting along with emergency lighting upgrades were completed to the new administration and dining block. The work was carried out in conjunction with Sheehan & Barry Architects, JN & G Traynor & Partners and main contractor Bracegrade.
On the healthcare front, L Redmond’s recent projects include full LED lighting upgrades for the HSE’s energy department at St Francis’ Hospice in Blanchardstown and St Joseph’s Hospital in Raheny; full LED lighting upgrade for the HSE directly at Clontarf Hospital; and full LED lighting upgrade to the National Ambulance Service’s Rivers Building in Tallaght.
Elaborating on some of the contractor’s other recently completed projects, Brian says: “We’ve installed EV charging points at various Garda Stations around Dublin, including Irishtown and Terenure. We installed AC and DC chargers and also carried out the civil works.
“We replaced the existing fire alarm system with a hybrid part-wired and wireless system at the six-storey James Joyce Library in UCD in a live environment, and also carried out a MV (medium voltage) upgrade in the UCD Science Block. Another recent education project was a full LED lighting upgrade of Goldsmith Hall in Trinity College (TCD).
“In addition, we carried out a full electrical upgrade to Block H at McKee Barracks in collaboration with Mythen Construction and IN2 Engineering for the Department of Defence. We also undertake a lot of maintenance and ongoing works to the Royal Victoria Eye & Ear Hospital and the Indian Embassy.”
Brian adds: “We’re currently carrying out a fire alarm and emergency lighting upgrade at the Custom House in conjunction with Lawler Consulting Engineers. It’s obviously a great honour to work in iconic and historic buildings such as the Custom House, Royal Hospital Kilmainham and Trinity College.”
The affable managing director would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as his staff and subcontractors for their passion, hard work, dedication and expertise.
