N2 Electrical & Security Supplies Ltd is a leading electrical wholesaler and lighting supplier based in Ashbourne, Co. Meath. Established in the mid-1990s by Martin and Bridie McMahon, the company was recently taken over by Andrew Coyle who is eager to keep it on an upward trajectory.
It has been a hectic few months for Andrew who took up the company reins at the end of July before getting married a week later. He joined N2 Electrical & Security Supplies Ltd straight out of school almost a decade ago, and worked in stores, behind the counter and then in the office before becoming general manager in 2021. When the opportunity arose to acquire the business, he didn’t let it pass.
“It was in the pipeline from January 2022,” explains Andrew who, at just 26, is an old head on young shoulders.
“When Martin and Bridie offered it to me, I couldn’t turn it down. It’s a great company with a great customer-base. We’re well-established and are based in a fast-growing area which can only be good for business. Our location just off the N2 and within a 10-minute drive of the M50 and Dublin is another big selling point for us.
“There are a number of large factories and companies close by, including Sam Dennigan & Co, Keogh’s Crisps and Tayto Snacks, who we supply to. We have two vans driven by Pat and Victor that are always available for delivery. Our delivery service is second to none.”
Andrew adds: “The company was originally based on the old Ashbourne Road before relocating to a larger premises at Rath Cross, which is beside Ashbourne Fire Station. Martin and Bridie are staying on for another few months to help with the changeover. They’ve built up a great business and I hope it will continue to go from strength to strength.”
Supplying contractors, wholesalers and the general public with all their electrical needs, N2 Electrical employs nine people who have a wealth of experience in the industry. Andrew and his team take great pride in their customer service and product knowledge. As an independently-owned company, it offers the personal touch that you just don’t get from large wholesalers. No customer order is too big or too small for the Co. Meath operation whose product range includes cables, sockets, lighting, fuse boards, alarms, industrial switchgear and workwear.
Repeat business and word of mouth have been central to the company’s growth and success. The well-stocked premises is also home to a Lighting Showroom that showcases the company’s lighting collections, which include a range of high-quality decorative lighting, modern lighting, crystal, traditional lighting fittings, bathroom lighting and outdoor lighting.

Opening hours are from 7am to 5.30pm Monday-Friday and 8.30am and 1pm on Saturdays. The 7am opening time caters, in particular, for the large volume of electricians who call in for products on their way to work.
“We used to open at 7.30am before Covid, but found that opening half-an-hour earlier suited electricians better. A lot of electricians working on sites in Dublin stop off on their way. We have three lads on the counter full-time and a coffee machine which is always in demand at that time of the morning! We will always go the extra mile to ensure our customers are happy with our service and that they are getting the right product.”
