Celebrating 10 years in business, Metec Consulting Engineers is a multi-disciplined building services engineering consultancy based in Bray, Co. Wicklow. The successful practice offers a complete range of environmental services which include mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, energy and sustainability, LEED / BREEAM, due diligence survey and reporting, non-domestic BER assessors, lifts and vertical transport, BIM and Revit / 3D Modelling.

The company was founded in February 2007 by Greg Brett. In August 2009, Bernard Denver and Greg Brett formed a partnership and from the modest start of these two engineers located in Wicklow Enterprise Centre in Wicklow Town, sub-letting a small office from an architectural practice, circa 15 sq. m, Metec are now considered in the industry to be one of the leading and dynamic consulting engineers in the country with 35 full time employees.

In 2011 recognising the need for a senior electrical engineer, with both experience, gravitas in the industry and with the same hunger and passion, Cyril Creaven joined Metec as their third director and partner. Gary Quinn was promoted as a Director in April 2016, following a very successful period since he started in April 2014.

Metec completed their own 3,500 sq ft fitout in September 2015, adopting numerous fitout features, such as exposed Services in Canteen, collaborative work space, Board Room, Hub Room and Open Plan desking for up to 50 staff.

Metec has worked on a large number of mixed-used residential and commercial developments, including office developments, restaurants, commercial facilities, schools, pharmaceutical projects, residential developments, healthcare, food processing plants, sports and leisure, religious buildings and prisons. The company believes its services are understandable, useful, of the highest quality and presented in a timely manner. Metec endeavours to be a provider of quality building engineering services solutions tailored to the client’s specific requirements. Its client portfolio ranges across a number of different sectors.

Metec has been nominated for Consultancy of the Year at the Irish Construction Industry and Engineering Firm of the Year awards in recent years. From humble beginnings, it has grown to employ 35 engineers and be known as one the leading mechanical and building Electrical engineering services consultancies in the country.

“In the midst of the recession, there was just me and Greg Brett,” director Bernard Denver explains.

“We have come a long way since then, having grown through those difficult dark days for the construction industry and extended our client-base beyond Ireland. We have been operating out of La Vallee House in Bray for the past six years. Our office is open plan which encourages greater interaction and communication between staff. It’s a real team effort here. Our experience, cost competitiveness, attention to detail and creative and innovative approach to all aspects of mechanical and electrical design has seen us build up a large and loyal client-base.”

The firm now has four directors – Greg Brett, Bernard Denver, Cyril Creaven and Gary Quinn.

“Commercial office development accounts for about 60 per cent of our business,” Bernard points out.

“We have just completed an office fit-out at Twitter’s European headquarters in Cumberland House on Fenian Street in Dublin. We’ve also recently handed over projects to AerCap La Touche in St. Stephen’s Green, Teleflex in Athlone and 2-4 Merrion Row.

“In the retail sector, we do a lot of work for Primark and have recently completed 12 different projects for them in Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Austria and Northern Ireland. We also have many valued clients in the residential, industrial and sports and leisure sectors.”

Projects the Metec team are currently working on include the Old Jameson Distillery in Smithfield, which is undergoing an €11 redevelopment and reopened on St. Patrick’s Day, and the fit-out and upgrade of the 1GQ building on George’s Quay that will result in more than 125,000 sq. ft. of Grade A office space.

“The 1GQ project is on course for a LEED Platinum rating. We are delighted to be working on such a prestigious development with our client Irish Life and design team partners,” Bernard continues.

“We have experience in LEED Platinum and LEED Gold standard projects, and embraced BIM at an early stage. Projects, currently in construction such as One Ballsbridge and 3009 Citywest are examples of projects where BER “A3” and LEED Gold have been achieved. 1SC is a project currently being tendered a 135,000 sq ft new build which was designed fully using Revit/BIM and will achieve LEED Gold rating”.

Other prestigious commercial projects currently being designed include The Beckett, Charlemont Exchange, Earlsfort Block E and Irish Life Dundalk to name a few.

“We are well up-to-speed with all the latest technological advances in the industry. We are also ISO 9001, ISO OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 accredited and corporate members of ACEI. We have worked on projects in Dublin, Athlone, Galway, Limerick and Letterkenny as well as overseas in the past year alone and are excited about what the future holds for us.”
