3 Mar , 2026

Taaffe Plumbing & Heating Ltd is a new company with a 50-year heritage. Fronted by Adrian Taaffe, it has hit the ground running by offering a reliable, friendly, value-for-money and first-class service to an existing and new client-base.

Specialising in boilers oil / solid fuel, water pumps treatment UV, heat pumps underfloor heating, solar hot water, gas heaters industrial boilers, domestic heat recovery and demand control ventilation, refrigeration heating and cooling and ventilation heating, cooling and recovery, the Ballintogher, Co. Sligo-based firm carries out exceptional work in the domestic and industrial sectors.

Formed just over a year ago, Taaffe Plumbing & Heating evolved from Thomas Taaffe Plumbing & Heating which was set up in the 1970s by Tommy Taaffe as a small, one-person operation with a desire and ambition to provide a professional, reliable and customer-focused plumbing solution for businesses and individuals in the Sligo area.

As the business grew, so too did Tommy’s team of plumbers and family members, which included his nephew, Adrian. The establishment of a successful company on a local level provided many opportunities for Tommy to expand the company profile on a wider scale. Over time, Thomas Taaffe Plumbing & Heating became a well-known, reliable and quality plumbing services provider to not only customers in Sligo, but to clients across Connacht and other parts of the country.

Proud to be a family business, Thomas Taaffe Plumbing & Heating endeavoured where possible to provide individuals in the Ballintogher and Ballygawley areas with job opportunities. Over the years, many apprenticeships were given to plumbers who now run their own businesses. The company continued to thrive and evolve in tandem with the many changes in efficiency, sustainability and new technology advancements.

A new limited company, Taaffe Plumbing & Heating, was created in September 2024 after Tommy ceased working under his own company due to illness. Sadly, he passed away in March 2025. However, Tommy’s legacy lives on in the new company which Adrian runs with his brother Conan and seven direct employees, who are supported and supplemented by the same tried and tested subcontractors. The second-generation business provides the same levels of service that the original company had done for almost half a century.

Although slightly different, the new company operates with the same staff and resources, and hasn’t changed in the ethos and philosophy from the early days instilled by Tommy where reliability, quality and customer satisfaction were a priority.

“We’ve followed on from Tommy. Conan and I had 40 years’ combined experience working for him, so we knew the ropes and it has been a smooth transition,” Adrian says.

“We cover all aspects of domestic and industrial plumbing and heating, and also undertake maintenance works for offices and letting agencies. Our business is 50% domestic and 50% industrial. We work directly for private individuals, schools, hotels, shops, factories and other businesses and also alongside main contractors such as Kilcawley Construction, Arken Construction, K&D Construction and G&M Construction on social housing projects for Sligo County Council and other various projects.

“Furthermore, we are SEAI-registered contractors for heat pumps and controls. We have a good crew of qualified and apprentice plumbers who are supported by reliable subcontractors, including Nairn Refrigeration & Heat Pumps, J&J Drains, Dunnings Gas, Kerrill Waters Oil Boiler Service, Lock Up Alarms, Enda McGoldrick Agri Services, John Isaac Gas Services, Paul Moran Electrical, KMG Electrical, Woodstream Construction, KC Electric, Hitchens Controls, EWA Controls and Vision Build.

“We also enjoy an excellent relationship with our clients. Adrian adds: “We only supply and use high quality products, with energy-saving and renewable products involving integrating water-efficient fixtures, energy-efficient heating systems and renewable energy sources such as geothermal and air to water systems. Other sustainable practices include using recycled pipe materials, rainwater harvesting and greywater recycling.”

“In this business, you’re only as good as your last job. All our work is secured through word of mouth, recommendations and reputation. Because we do good work, we don’t need to advertise. We’re also fortunate that the majority of our work is on our doorstep. But if we have to travel, we will. We’ll go wherever the work is.”

As Taaffe Plumbing & Heating continues to go from strength to strength, Adrian would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients and suppliers for their support as well as his staff and subcontractors for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
