Coming up on 10 years in business, Young Electrical is a leading specialist in temporary electrical site installations. The company has earned an enviable reputation for providing a professional, reliable and cost-effective service, while adhering to the highest safety standards.
Based in Dublin, Young Electrical is fronted by Stewart Murphy and employs 25 people at building sites across the capital. It can count some of Ireland’s foremost main building contractors among its list of clients, including John Sisk & Son, Cairn Homes, PJ Hegarty & Sons, Walls Construction and John Paul Construction. Stewart also fronts EGM Electrical which was established in 2017 by Nigel Eakins, Tony Gorman and Stewart Murphy to cater for electrical fitouts, and employs a further 20 people.
Young Electrical’s ability to provide the same high standard of service and reliability to both small and large projects is what sets it apart. To this end, the temporary electrical solutions specialist can project-manage smaller projects or liaise with technical coordinators on larger projects. In addition, it can asset-manage distribution boards, site transformers, lighting, heating and fire alarms before and after completion, while wireless fire alarm, site evacuation and first aid call points are also a speciality.
All aspects of generator connections and earthing for provision of temporary power are also available. Young Electrical’s operatives boast extensive knowledge in the provision of power, lighting and earthing to tower cranes on-site.
As a member of RECI, AECI and Safe Electrical, Young Electrical maintains the highest standards in safety. Its goal is to form long-term relationships with clients by providing excellence and powering progress. With the ability to work on sites of any size, the company always delivers projects on time, within budget and to the client’s exact requirements.
“We pride ourselves on the experience and expertise we have within our workforce as well as our ability to respond and mobilise quickly to site. We provide planning, design and supply of electrical equipment on a rental basis,” Stewart says.
“We can provide bespoke site requirements quickly and efficiently, and have an array of equipment for doing so. We also focus on Health & Safety and utilise the services of Jim Doherty of Jim Doherty Safety Ltd on a regular basis. Our Health & Safety procedures tick all the boxes for our Tier 1 clients who demand nothing less from their sub-contractors.”
The award-winning company’s maintenance contracts are preventative rather than reactionary, offering better long-term value and comfort. These services include periodic testing and inspection by approved and qualified registered testers, scheduled maintenance works and corrective works to any detected faults as well as reactive site maintenance and callouts.
All types of lighting can be installed with various energy-saving controls to incorporate the latest LED energy-saving technology. Data cabling and communication systems along with fire alarm, security systems, access control and emergency lighting can be installed to the latest industry standards. That Young Electrical is the temporary electrical site solutions specialist of choice for some of the country’s leading construction companies isn’t something that has happened by accident.
“We have built up an excellent working relationship with our clients by delivering high-quality work on time, within budget and safely,” the affable managing director continues.
“While we’re focused on the greater Dublin area at the moment, we can take on projects anywhere. Our ‘bread and butter’ is bringing temporary power to building sites and liaising with the ESB on behalf of the client.
“A specialist skillset is required to get the site powered up for enabling works, and then as the shell and the core of the building goes up. We have the personnel to do this.
“We have a superb workforce who are a tight-knit team that provide excellent backup and support for one another.”
Young Electrical currently has teams carrying out temporary electrical set-ups at 2-4 Wilton Park for John Sisk & Son, the Treasury Building for PJ Hegarty & Sons, Echelon Date Centre in Clondalkin for Walls Construction and a large apartment complex for Cairn Homes in CityWest. EGM, meanwhile, is engaged in large electrical fit-out projects in Clondalkin (80-room assisted living complex), Rathmines (120-bed co-living student accommodation) and CityWest (Gowan Motors Group).
Stewart has been running Young Electrical since its inception in 2013. It was formed after another company of the same name ceased trading after its owner George Young retired.
“I worked for the old Young Electrical for 15 years, starting out as an apprentice and working my way up to electrician and then contracts manager. Because George had such a good name in the industry and had forged strong relationships with the likes of Sisk, John Paul and Walls, I decided to keep the name. I’ve been trying to grow that reputation even more since then.”
As Young Electrical prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary, Stewart would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as his dedicated crew for their hard work, flexibility, loyalty and skill.
