AM Electrical Services (NI) Ltd are one of the leading electrical contractors in Northern Ireland. Based in Eglish, Dungannon, Co Tyrone, the company was established in 2007.
Even though AM Electrical celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, the company’s directors Anthony Feeney and Martin O’Neill have brought many years’ experience to the business and with a highly skilled and dedicated workforce, they have made huge strides in the industry leading to them being involved in many prestigious contracts for some of the North’s top building contractors.
AM Electrical provides the full range of electrical services and this lenghty list includes Full Design and Build of Electrical Installations including bespoke Lighting proposals; Heavy Duty UPS Systems; Central Battery Emergency Lighting Systems; Industrial and Domestic Installations; Lighting Design Creation; CCTV Installations c/w remote monitoring services; Intruder Alarm Systems; Remote Monitoring Systems for both Security and Surveillance Purposes; Fire Alarm (Conventional and Analogue); Heating Systems; Electrical Contracting; Electrical Testing and Inspection; Maintenance; LED; Lighting – Commercial and Domestic; General and Emergency lighting installation; Floodlighting.
Project Director Damian Kelly spoke to Building Ireland about what makes AM such a success. “Our aim is always to finish a project on time, on budget and to the highest standard possible and that is the main reason for the success that we have had over the years,” said Damian.
“To achieve those three goals, a lot of planning, working together as a team and ensuring that every aspect of the project receives the necessary attention is essential.
AM Electrical Services (NI) Ltd have always found pride in delivering a professional and efficient service to all their customers; working closely with their project partners to ensure there every step of the project is to their satisfaction.
“Our services are conducted across a wide range of sectors as we cover industrial, domestic, commercial, education and health. Not only have we carried out work in the north here, but we also have completed and have projects ongoing in the mainland UK as well. In the past, we have carried out projects down south, while we are currently tendering for projects in Dublin.”
AM Electrical have a number of projects ongoing at the moment which include Coleraine Public Library, Drumahoe Primary School (Castledawson), Nazareth Care Centre (Belfast), Wishing Well Family Centre (Belfast), Social Housing developments (Ballymena and Newry) and Queens University where student accommodation consisting of 750 rooms are being developed.
“Fortunately, we are very busy at present and we have a number of projects ongoing, but we are not ones to rest on our laurels and are continuously tendering for work.
“In the last four to five years, we have experienced growth year on year and that is something that we would like to continue and we feel by providing the best service possible, this can be achieved. If there any issues on a project, they are addressed immediately and this is something that we pride ourselves on.”
The company’s reputation for delivering excellence on projects has resulted in them working with some of Northern Ireland’s biggest developers and they have long standing working relationships with the likes of Lowry Construction,
Connolly & Fee, RJ McKelvey Ltd, QMAC Construction Ltd and Geda Construction.
As stated earlier, the company employs a highly skilled workforce, all of who are trained to the highest standard in the electrical industry.
“All of our electricians are qualified and trained to the highest standards and work in accordance with guidelines from NICEIC and the latest BS7671 Wiring Regulations. This includes all health and safety training as required in the modern day construction industry.
“There are 20 employed here, but that can grow depending on how busy we are. Some of the electricians have been with us for a number of years now, while some have left and come back.
“To keep the dynamic of the business, apprentices are taken on regularly and they have the opportunity to work their way up by proving their worth. Some of the foremen here would have served their time with the company.”
AM Electrical are accredited as RECI and NICEIC members, while they have also obtained the ISO 9001, 14001, 18001 for business, environmental and health & safety.
“A lot of work has gone in to achieving the ISO and as a company, we are delighted to have all three.”
Working so closely with the project leader allows AM Electrical to participate in and offer full design and build electrical install projects, backed up with a documented technical service to ensure full design compliance to current installation stipulations. This includes task or display lighting installations and emergency lighting systems as well as unusual power requirements.
Damian admitted to us that as a company, they are delighted with the way the business is heading, but he was mindful that a cautious approach still had to be made due to circumstances beyond their control.
“The future does look good for us, but we would not be over-confident at the same time. There is always room for improvement and when you have the uncertainty of Brexit hanging over you, nobody knows what will happen. However, our primary concern is to our clients and ensuring that they continue to receive the level of service that they have come to expect from us.”
Recently obtained contracts include a new renovation on Stephen’s Green Hotel, Dublin, a Food Distribution Hub in Liverpool and for Craigavon based AJ Power.
