Since its establishment in 2000, Weslin Construction Ltd has become one of the most respected names in the Irish building and civil engineering sector. Managing director Aidan Boyle explains more.
Based in Damastown, Dublin 15, the medium-sized building and civil engineering contractor operates within a broad range of sectors, including education, residential, civil engineering, commercial, financial and industrial.
Last year, Weslin Construction was acquired by the Irish development and investment group, Ardale Property, whose focus is on growing the core contracting business while also expanding operations to include responsibility for on-site operations across group-wide development projects.
Weslin has grown significantly to increase its expertise and experience to its present capability spanning various construction disciplines. A management contractor employing many specialist sub-contractors, the company’s belief has always been to deliver a high-quality service and build on-time and as cost-effectively as possible. This desire for quality has seen the company employ a dedicated programme of re-investment in its people, systems and processes to ensure clients receive the most on-time and value-for-money solutions.

Quality certified to ISO 9001:2008, Weslin Construction’s operations are carried out in the safest manner achievable and with as little environmental impact as possible. This has been achieved through the implementation of safety and environmental management systems which are certified to OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 14001:2004 respectively.

Among the well-known projects Weslin Construction has successfully completed in the Dublin area are: the refurbishment of Bull Island Bridge; the fit-out and refurbishment of all circulation spaces and entrance foyer of a five-storey office at La Touche House; the installation of four 21-metre steel structured rain-screen umbrellas in Meeting House Square, Temple Bar; the conversion of Fastrack building at Heuston Station to an accommodation facility for train drivers; the construction of Pearse College Crèche; major extension to St. Anne’s Special Needs School in The Curragh, Co. Kildare.
Weslin Construction currently has a number of projects ongoing. These include: the DAA Pier 2 Transit Lounge and Injection Point in Terminal 1, Dublin Airport; DAA Digital Pods Enabling Works, Dublin Airport; Ballymun Garda Station Cell Area Upgrade; removal of 100,000 tonnes of Infill Material from the Alexandra Basin area of Dublin Port; reconfiguration of Dublin Diving Bell, Sir John Rogerson Quay, Dublin 2; construction of Maxol Service Station on M3 at Mulhuddart; revamp of up to 70 Bank of Ireland branches nationwide.
After the difficult years of recession, business is brisk once again for Weslin Construction and Aidan Boyle is looking to the future with renewed optimism.
“We’re at our busiest in four years,” the affable managing director enthuses.
“We always had enough work on to keep us going through the recession, but at least now there is a bit of margin attached to it. Our current annual turnover is between €8 and €10 million, and we hope to increase that in the coming years.”
