It has completed major projects such as the non-domestic water metering project for the greater Dublin area, water leak detection and management services, road and infrastructural projects, railway station platform extensions, water supply and sewerage schemes, gas network and distribution projects, water network and distribution and rehabilitation projects, electricity network enhancements, renewable energy projects and solutions, telecoms and broadband network projects.
GMC is proud to be working in close partnership with Uisce Éireann on its national Leakage Reduction Programme, delivering tangible benefits for communities through improved water efficiency and network resilience. Recent works carried out on the Cooley Peninsula in Co. Louth has resulted in water savings of more than 780,000 litres every day. This volume is equivalent to the daily water usage of over 5,800 people, representing a significant contribution to securing a reliable and sustainable water supply in the region.
Other recent projects include a major wastewater upgrade in Swords, Co. Dublin to support housing growth and sustainable development, and the successful delivery of a new High Power Fast Charging Hub at Frascati Shopping Centre in Blackrock, Co. Dublin, marking another key milestone in Ireland’s expanding EV charging infrastructure.
Furthermore, GMC has commenced construction works on the Liffey Valley to Dublin City Centre Core Bus Corridor. This landmark project, commissioned by the National Transport Authority (NTA), represents a significant step forward in the delivery of sustainable, efficient and future-ready transport infrastructure for Dublin. GMC has also been awarded the North Connacht 110kV High-Voltage Cable project, which expands the Group’s power sector capability and strengthens its position in Ireland’s high-voltage infrastructure delivery.
Operating from spacious, custom-built premises (comprising 13,500 sq. ft. of offices, a 7,500 sq. ft. workshop and 43,500 sq. ft. of storage) in the Millennium Business Park, Ballycoolin, Blanchardstown, Dublin 11, GMC has established itself as a major player in the utility sector in Ireland under the direction of CEO Shane McCloskey and a highly-skilled team.
One of the first Irish civil engineering companies to achieve the OHSAS 18001:2007 standard for Health & Safety, GMC Utilities Group operates a Total Integrated Management System which incorporates ISO 9001:2008, OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO 14001:2004 standards for Quality, Health & Safety and the Environment respectively, with the entire Group certified across all of these standards.

GMC Utilities Group was established as a telecommunications contractor by Gerry McCloskey in 1981 and has since grown organically year on year, integrating other utilities and investing heavily in both plant and labour.

Recently, GMC secured a strategic investment from TowerBrook Capital Partners. Following the conclusion of the deal, the management team at GMC, led by CEO Shane McCloskey, will remain the majority shareholders in the business and will continue to lead the company.
