Callaghan Electrical reaches major milestone

4 Nov, 2026

Callaghan Electrical has had even more cause for celebration than usual in 2026 – a landmark year which sees the industry-leading Cavan-based electrical contracting company reach its 30th anniversary whilst also surpassing the 100 employees mark for the first time. Building Ireland touched base with founder / MD Kieran Callaghan to extend our heartfelt congratulations!

Stradone, County Cavan headquartered Callaghan Electrical is celebrating two major milestones in 2026 as the company marks 30 years in business and breaking the 100-employee mark for the first time.

Founded in 1996, Callaghan Electrical has grown from a small local operation into a leading electrical contractor delivering electrical installation, fitout, maintenance and design services across Ireland. The company operates across multiple sectors including residential, industrial, pharmaceutical, healthcare, heritage, education and the public sector.

Managing Director Kieran Callaghan views the 2026 landmark anniversary as both a proud moment for the business and an exciting launching pad for the future:

“Reaching 30 years in business is a significant milestone for us. What makes it even more special is achieving it alongside breaking the 100-employee mark. That growth is down to the hard work, professionalism and loyalty of our team, and the continued trust of our clients and partners across the country.

“We’ve built our reputation on quality, reliability and long-term relationships. As we look to the future, we’re focused on continuing to innovate, invest in our people and deliver high-quality electrical solutions across every sector we serve.”

Ultimately, is it all about people? Is the wonderful team Kieran has assembled at Callaghan Electrical one of the main reasons why the company continues to progress and thrive, delivering quality electrical engineering solutions to a vast range of clients on a consistent basis?

“They are the backbone of our business. We are a service-based company and without people we simply wouldn’t have a business. The longevity of the business is 100 per cent down to them and I can’t thank them enough for their loyalty and dedication. From Padraig Reilly, who has been with us for 27 years and counting, through each and every member of our team, the loyalty and capability of our people is fantastic.”

To officially mark its 30-year anniversary, Callaghan Electrical hosted a dedicated staff appreciation day at Killygarry Sports Complex in the spring, with team-building activities facilitated by event management company Dynamic Events. The day concluded with a staff barbeque evening at Hotel Kilmore. Awards and recognition presentations were given out to acknowledge service, leadership, teamwork and outstanding contributions to the firm’s continued growth and success.

The aforementioned Padraig Reilly was amongst those honoured and he commented: “It was a fantastic day and a great opportunity for everyone to step away from projects and spend time together. There’s a strong team spirit in the company and events like this show that the work we do is genuinely appreciated.”

As for some of the other qualities, traits or characteristics that have been instrumental in the success of Callaghan Electrical for 30 years now – and with much, much more to come! – Kieran continues: “One is hard work and the can-do culture we have created in the business, which through at every level. It’s also unequivocally a solution-based culture, and that helps us enormously.”

The company’s exponential growth is reflected in recent major project completions and new contracts. A selection of these include the completion of a largescale 82,000 sq. ft. electrical fit out within the pharmaceutical sector for PCI Pharma Services.

Elsewhere, having previously completed 1,000 apartment units at Adamstown, Dublin for Elliott Group, Callaghan Electrical is currently delivering a further 330 apartment units in Adamstown. More locally, in Cavan, the firm is delivering a 100,000 sq. ft. electrical package for a modern metal fabrication facility for Breffni Air.

In 2024, Callaghan Electrical became the first subcontractor in Ireland to secure funding under Enterprise Ireland’s ‘Built to Innovate’ initiative. Part of the government’s ‘Housing for All’ programme, Callaghan Electrical secured this funding due to its adoption and commitment to digitisation, innovation and industry leadership in the electrical construction sector.

To support continued expansion going forward, Callaghan Electrical announced ten new vacancies across electrical contracting positions to be rolled out across 2026. The company is actively recruiting skilled electrical contracting professionals and operates a top-level apprenticeship programme, hiring locally in Cavan, Meath, Monaghan, Louth and Dublin.

“Breaking the 100-employee mark is just the beginning,” Kieran promises. “We’re investing heavily in our talent and our capabilities. We want ambitious people to grow their careers with us and be part of our next chapter.”

As Callaghan Electrical enters its fourth decade in business, the company remains committed to delivering best-in-class electrical solutions while continuing to grow sustainably and invest in innovation, safety and workforce development.

“We’ve a strong order book, a growing team and a clear strategic direction – our future looks bright and we are so proud to be one of Cavan’s – and Ireland’s – long-standing success stories”, the hands-on MD adds.

“We have proven that we can deliver very different types of projects and all our staff have the skills and confidence to take responsibility for doing very different jobs. This flexibility and versatility mean that no two days are ever the same.

“The industry has changed a lot since we started out and one of the big changes in electrical contracting is the number of systems that would be involved in an installation. When I started out, you were looking at lights, sockets and a timer clock for heating, whereas today the average electrical installation involves up to 35 different systems. You must move with the technology to make sure you are completely up to speed with all of these.”

A nationwide provider of electrical contracting services since 1996, Callaghan Electrical has built a reputation for quality, trust, integrity and commitment amongst design partners, developers, architects and direct clients.  With its 100+ team of skilled electrical practitioners, the company provides a full suite of electrical contracting services covering all sectors. Always driven by a quality ethos, Callaghan Electrical brings a solution-focus to each client engagement to ensure that all expectations are met, if not exceeded, every time.

Regarding his company’s ability to constantly move with the times through a process of continuously adapting, evolving and innovating, Kieran comments: “We get it right first time and that makes it better for everybody. It’s easier to hold on to clients as you’ve earned their trust and it’s also easier to maintain staff when they don’t have to go back and do the same thing twice. We embrace whatever technology is available and our ethos is ‘do it right, do it once’.”

It’s an approach that’s clearly been working a charm for Callaghan Electrical for 30 years and all the indicators suggest that this exceptional one-of-a-kind electrical contracting company remains very much on an upward trajectory!
