Based in Jenkinstown, Dundalk, Michael Connolly Eden Contracts Ltd (MCC) is a leading construction company which specialises in delivering top quality projects for its clients. Building Ireland caught up with Managing Director Michael Connolly to learn all about this thriving company and the projects it’s currently immersed in.
Business is good these days at Michael Connolly Eden Contracts Ltd (MCC) and the plan for Michael and the team in Jenkinstown, Co Louth is to try and keep things that way for the foreseeable future.
Established as a limited venture four years ago, the company’s origins date back a quarter of a century to when Michael himself started out as a sole trader in this game, having originally taken over from his father who worked in the building trade for 30 years.
Today, Michael’s business employs six full-time staff and many more on a subcontractor basis, with his son James and partner Geraldine being integral parts of the company.
Our staff are a key element to the success, along with our team of subcontractors, some of which we have worked with for over 20 years.
Building Ireland touched base with the man himself recently to discuss the ins and outs of the business and its overall hopes going forward.
“We are general builders,” Michael outlined. “We’d have started off doing small extensions and then got into doing one-off houses and, in the last number of years, we’ve been doing a lot of commercial projects in Dublin.
“So, we would retrofit buildings and also reroof old asbestos roofs and totally transform an old building to a building that would be completely ready for new tenants.”
Since ‘Day One’, the company placed a strong emphasis on quality and customer satisfaction, prioritising the use of premium materials, advanced construction techniques and meticulous attention to detail.
MCC’s commitment to excellence has earned it a reputation for delivering projects of the highest standards, resulting in the trust and loyalty of its clientele along the way.
To that end, it’s no surprise to hear that business is thriving at the moment for the Dundalk-based outfit.
“We’re very good business-wise right now. We probably have enough work in now at the moment for 12 months ahead of us,” said Michael.
“We’re really very busy with what we do – both in Dublin and in Dundalk. This last number of years since Covid, we’ve been very busy altogether.
“We don’t advertise, it’s all word of mouth. We also work with a number of Architects and Engineers both in Dundalk and Dublin and strive to keep up to date with current building regulations.”
Whether it’s a residential, commercial, maintenance, or fireproofing project, clients know that they can trust MCC to get the job done properly on time and within budget every time.
Right now, Michael and his team are immersed in a number of different projects close to home around the Dundalk area and in the capital as well.
“We have a new house finishing off and we’re after finishing a commercial unit in Dublin,” said the Managing Director.
“We’re also doing a refit of offices that are going into apartments and extensions in Dundalk along with renovations to a house. They’re the four that are just finishing off now at the moment for us.
“Converting offices into apartments is something we do a lot of. Even with that commercial building in Dublin, there were 30 offices when we went into it and we did away with 15 of them because storage is more valuable now than offices.”
He added: “We have another extension and a refit secured which starts at the end of August. We have another renovation in Rathmines in Dublin which starts in September, and then we have a job in Ravensdale which starts on October 1st.
“After that, we have two smaller units in Santry in Dublin which the clients were in for 20 years. We’re going in to refresh the units and offices and get it ready for a new client.”
Along with new construction, MCC specialises in maintenance services that serve to keep the client’s properties in optimal condition. We would undertake a variety of maintenance services for residential management companies in Dublin.
The company’s comprehensive maintenance solutions cover everything from routine inspections and repairs to ongoing facility management, providing clients with peace of mind and ensuring the longevity of their investments.
Looking at the coming months for his company, Michael says that he’s very much hoping for more of the same business-wise and, as always, is optimistic about what’s around the corner for MCC.
“We’d just like to keep going the way we are and keep the books full going forward,” he concluded.
