Seamus Foy & Sons Building Contractors underscored its position as the leading building contractor in the midlands by winning the prestigious ‘Builder of the Year’ accolade for the third year running at the 2025 Midlands 103 Customer Service Awards.
It’s marvellous recognition for the third-generation house builder which has earned an enviable reputation for quality construction over the years. The Customer Service Awards recognise outstanding service across counties Laois, Offaly and Westmeath, and 500 guests gathered at the Tullamore Court Hotel in June to applaud the individuals and companies who go above and beyond for their customers every day.
This year’s awards followed weeks of on-air and online promotion, and more than 12,000 listener votes were posted in the 60+ categories. Winners were selected by an independent judging panel, led by renowned architect Hugh Wallace of ‘Home of the Year’ and ‘The Great House Revival’ TV fame.
“It’s great for business,” Philip Foy of Seamus Foy & Sons Building Contractors enthuses.
“It’s our third year-in-a-row to win ‘Builder of the Year’, so we must be doing something right! It’s a testament to our amazing team who always go the extra mile for our customers, and also recognises their exceptional work and attention to detail on every project.”
The Foy name has been synonymous with building excellence in the midlands and beyond for over 100 years. Hailing from Clonmore near Rhode in Co. Offaly, Seamus Foy is joined in the award-winning business by his sons and fellow-directors Philip, James and Stephen along with 20 direct employees. Philip’s wife Maria is also involved in the administration side of things. The Foy team is supported by the same tried and tested subcontractors, including plumber Padraig Mangan, electrician Andrew Carty, carpenter James Harney and roofer Tony McNamara.
“Similar to ourselves, our subbies are second- and third-generation tradesmen whose fathers and grandfathers would have worked with our father and grandfather. The company was founded by our grandfather Tommy, who came from a family of builders,” Philip explains.
Predominantly engaged in the residential sector, Seamus Foy & Sons specialise in new builds, extensions and renovations across the midlands and greater Dublin area. Previously featured on the hit TV show ‘Room To Improve’, versatility and client satisfaction are at the heart of this exceptional family business whose highly-skilled and experienced tradesmen are as comfortable working on small renovations as the largest, most challenging new builds.
Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Seamus Foy & Sons. Health & Safety is also paramount. From concept to completion, the Foy team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs, and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved.
Seamus Foy & Sons’ one-stop shop approach ensures that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Co. Offaly contractor’s reputation for high spec’ work and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from scores of satisfied clients.
By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with design teams and using only the very best building products, this fully insured contractor is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients.
“Our approach is that no job is ever considered too big or too small,” continues Philip, who continues to line out alongside his brothers for their beloved Clonmore Harps GAA team.
“From the smallest job to the largest project, we’re equally comfortable. While new builds, extensions and refurbishments are our ‘bread and butter’, we also do some commercial work. We will complete all projects to the most exacting standards and pride ourselves on the quality of our work.”
Business is booming for Seamus Foy & Sons who complete an average of 20 projects a year.
“We’re extremely busy, especially with new builds and renovations to the A1 energy rating standard. The new houses are getting bigger and more extravagant. They range from 1,200 sq. ft. up to 4,800 sq. ft in size. It all comes down to people’s budgets and how much they’re prepared to spend.”
Asked what the secret of the company’s success is, the affable director replies: “Our biggest selling point is the fact that we’re family-run and have been around for a long time. We pride ourselves on our personal service and the excellent working relationship we enjoy with our customers, suppliers, subcontractors and design teams.
“As I said already, we treat every job the same and secure the vast majority of our work through word of mouth. One job usually leads to another. We’re proud of the work we leave behind and always go to great lengths to take the stress out of the build for our clients. We’re mindful that building a new home is probably the biggest investment they will ever make. We not only strive to meet, but exceed their expectations.”
Philip is fulsome in his praise for the company’s employees, adding: “Our people are our greatest asset. They are all vastly experienced and highly-skilled. They have been with us for years and we don’t take on anybody lightly – they will have to be proven and have the experience and credentials to be able to work to the standards we expect.”
Passionate about construction, Seamus Foy & Sons would like to take this opportunity to thank their customers and suppliers for their continued support.
